Why
are bishops not accountable?
Martin Mallon
(Tuesday blogger from Ireland)
It is difficult
for many members of the Catholic church to stomach the fact that Cardinal
Bernard Law, Bishop Robert Finn and Archbishop Peter Sartain are held in
high esteem by the hierarchy of the church while the likes of Bill Morris
, Roy Bourgeois, Tony Flannery, Brian D’Arcy, etc are sacked, defrocked
or censored.

It is
mentioned by the Early Fathers and then appears to have been lost. It was only
re-discovered in
Constantinople
in the late 1800s. It gives us a valuable insight to those
formative years. It gives us direction for the Christian Community emerging from
its Jewish root and reflects on the lived experience of those early Christian
years.

Fr Harry Winter OMI
(Blogger from USA)
I was truly
shocked as I celebrated the Mass for the feast of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton,
to see how the new edition of the Sacramentary changed and deformed the
former collect. We must shout from the rooftops that
we protest and reject the effort by fundamentalists to roll back Vatican II

I personally call Baptism the sacrament of freedom, and connect it with the
experience of Israel in Egypt. Egypt represents the power of sin that tries to destroy our lives,
and we need God's mercy to be set free.

New

George Monbiot
Climate change denial is almost a national pastime in Australia. The
Australian – owned by Rupert Murdoch – takes such extreme
anti-science positions that it sometimes makes the Sunday Telegraph look
like the voice of reason. Perhaps this is
unsurprising. Australia is the world’s largest exporter of coal – the
most carbon intensive fossil fuel. It’s also a profligate consumer.
Taking meaningful action on climate change would
require a serious reassessment of the way life is lived there.

Anything
different from Pope Benedict's interpretation
of Vat II is heresy!?!
c.f. David Timbs:
The
Year of Faith
The Reform of the Reform sets up a dialectic between
the Hermeneutic of Reform and Continuity with the Hermeneutic of
Discontinuity and Rupture. This is both very Teutonic and highly
contrived. It gets it oxygen from Ratzinger/Benedict’s favoured
Augustinian oppositional construct of reality, the City of God in conflict
with the City of Man.
