Revelation 22.16-20: "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to make these
revelations to you
for the sake of the churches. I am of David's line, the Root of David,
the Bright Star of the Morning". The Spirit and the Bride say: "Come".
Let all who want eternal life say: "Come". Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
Come Lord Jesus! Come into my heart! Come into
our world!
My
recording of this reading
Mark
15.42-47 (let's
finish Mark before Lent): Joseph from Arimathaea was a rich
man who had become a disciple of Jesus. After Jesus died on Friday, he
asked Governor Pilate for Jesus' body. Joseph wrapped the body in a clean
burial cloth and put it in a tomb in a rock cave. He then put a large
stone at the cave's entrance. Mary of Magdala and another woman watched Joseph as he put Jesus' body in the tomb
Jesus in the tomb, please give
eternal life to everyone who dies today
Listen
Mark
16.1-8:
Jesus died on Friday afternoon.
Early on Sunday morning, Mary of
Magdala and two other women went to
Jesus' tomb to anoint his body with spices.
They had been wondering how they would roll away the large stone,
but when they arrived, the stone had already been rolled away. When they went into the tomb, they saw a young
man in a white robe and they were full of awe. But he said to them
"Do not be afraid. You are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is
not here. He has risen from the dead. Go and tell his disciples he
will see them in Galilee"
Jesus,
when life seems
hopeless, like a dead body in a tomb, please
help us remember how you rose from the dead....and you can help us
"rise" from any "hopeless" situation
Listen
Mark
16.9-20:
After he rose from the dead, Jesus appeared
first to Mary of Magdala, from whom he had cast out 7 devils. Next
he appeared to two of his disciples while they were on a journey. Then he appeared to the 11 apostles. He said
to them "Go everywhere in the world. Proclaim the Good News to all
creation.
Anyone who believes and is baptized, will be saved.
Anyone who refuses to believe, will be condemned.
These are the signs that will be associated with believers:
- in my name they will cast out devils
- they will have the gift of tongues
- they will pick up snakes in their hands
- they will be unharmed if they drink poison
- they will lay their hands on the sick, who will be healed".
And so, the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to
them, was taken up to heaven, while they, going out, preached everywhere,
the Lord working with them and confirming their message by the miracles that
accompanied the message
Lord Jesus, may more and more
people all over the world
believe in you

Wisdom
10-19: Wisdom has been present in the world since
the beginning of time.
Wisdom has always been a close friend of good people. Wise people see God in the beauty of creation.
Foolish people are blind to God's presence in creation. Wise people ponder God's goodness and
kindness.
Wise people try to be good and kind to other people.
Lord, please help me see and
imitate your goodness and kindness
My
recording of this reading
Psalm
95: Come ring out our joy to the Lord.
Hail the rock who saves us. Let us come before him giving thanks.
With songs let us praise the Lord.
A mighty God is the Lord,
a great king above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth.
The heights of the mountains are his. To him belongs the sea, for he made it,
and the dry land shaped by his hands. Come in, let us bow and bend low.
Let us kneel before the God who made us.
For he is our God and we are the people who belong to his pasture.
Lord, you are our Creator. Our
life comes from you. We praise and love you, Lord
Listen
Revelation
22.1-5: Then an angel showed me the River of Life,
flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb, flowing crystal-clear through the middle of the city.
Here God's servants will worship him.
They will see him face to face,
and his name will be written on their foreheads. It will never be night again.
They will not need lamplight or sunlight,
because the Lord God will be shining on them.
Jesus, may your name be written on my forehead
Listen
Mark
15. 33-39: Jesus was put on the cross sometime after 9am.
From about noon until 3pm there was darkness over all the land. About 3pm Jesus cried out the
words of Psalm 22
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" A little while later he again
cried out in a loud voice.
Then he died. At that moment the holy curtain in the Temple was torn in
two from top to bottom. The leader of the Roman soldiers
who crucified Jesus, when he saw how Jesus died, said "Truly this man
was a son of God".
Jesus, thank you for dying on
the cross for the salvation of the world
Listen
Reflection on the above readings: "The River of Life" (Revelation) is usually understood to mean the Holy Spirit ... like the water which flowed from Jesus side after he died on the Cross

Two nights ago a large group of Nepal men, drinking heavily from midnight to dawn, were very, very noisy at the corner shop near my home....disturbing many residents' sleep. Yesterday morning as I went to St Paul's for Mass, I tried to communicate with the Nepal men ...almost impossible when people have been drinking heavily. Last night I had the awful, terrible, mischievous thought: maybe some sleeping pills could be put in their beer cans?

Sun Feb 11
Yesterday morning I sent a long message to the media contacts I made in South America last month ....asking them to keep up the momentum in spreading our anti-drug campaign...telling people: Don't take drugs to HK!
Then I went for a walk in the lovely Winter sun to and from Tsim Sha Tsui to buy IDD cards for inmates who have no work income (not sentenced yet) to buy their own and no friends/relatives to help them.
Last night: Mass at St Paul's Yau Ma Tei ...like Sat night congregations all over the world, a delight to be with
Jesus, have mercy on the dead, heal the injured....and move the government to stop bus companies from allowing/forcing drivers to work over-tiring hours to get a decent wage: At least 18 dead, over 50 injured in HK bus crash

c.f. readings for Sunday 6
Leviticus 13-15: Instructions for hygiene:
People with skin diseases, suspected leprosy, boils and burns
should be carefully examined and isolated if necessary.
The clothing and homes of people with leprosy
should be put out of use.
During and after seminal or illness discharges and menstruation,
people should show extra concern for hygiene.
Dear God, please help me take
good care of my health
My
recording of this reading
Psalm
32: Happy is the person whose sin is forgiven.
For a while I refused to ask for forgiveness,
and my body paid the penalty. But then I said "Lord, forgive me"
and my spirit and body revived.
Lord, when I do wrong, please give me the grace to say sorry and ask forgiveness

Corinthians 10.16 - 11.1:
The cup that we bless is a communion with the
blood of Christ.
The bread that we break is a communion with the body of Christ. Avoid anything to do with idol worship.
It doesn't make sense to share in the table of the Lord and in the table
of demons. Whatever you eat, whatever you drink, whatever
you do at all,
do it for the glory of God. Never do anything offensive to anyone. Try to
be helpful to everyone at all times, not anxious for your own advantage,
but for the advantage of others, so that they may be saved. Take me for your model, as I take Christ.
Jesus, please help me imitate you in my daily
life
Listen
Mark
1.40-45: A leper came to Jesus and on his knees
pleaded
"If you want to, you can heal me". Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his
hand,
touched him and said "Of course I want to heal you. Be healed!" The leprosy left him at that moment and he was
healed. Jesus told the man not to tell people what had
happened
(in case people misunderstood Jesus' spiritual mission and tried to use
him politically). But the man told everyone. Soon Jesus could not go openly into any town
(for fear the crowds would become unruly) so he stayed in remote places. Even so, people from all around the district
would come to him.
Jesus, please heal people who
are lepers

Wisdom
8-9: From my youth I sought and loved Wisdom.
Wisdom teaches us temperance, prudence, justice and fortitude. I prayed for Wisdom like this:
"God of our ancestors and Lord of mercy,
in Wisdom you made all things. Grant me Wisdom who was with you when you made
the world.
May she teach me what is right,
so that I may be a good ruler.
Lord, please give me Wisdom, as
you gave Wisdom to King Solomon
My
recording of this reading
Psalm
94: O Lord, Judge of the earth,
how long will the wicked crush the poor? The wicked say "God does not hear".
But can he who made the ear, not hear? Blessed are those whom the Lord teaches.
The Lord gives them peace in troubled times. When cares increase in my heart,
God's consolation calms my soul.
Lord, when cares and troubles
increase, please help us to trust in you.

Revelation
21.10-23:
I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem,
coming down from God out of heaven. It had God's glory, and glittered like
a precious diamond. There was no temple in the city, since the
Lord God and the Lamb were themselves the temple. The city did not need sun or moon for
light, since it was lit by the radiant glory of God and of the Lamb.
Jesus, Light of the world, Light of Heaven, we
adore you, Lord!

Mark
15.21-32: As Jesus was taken to the place of crucifixion,
a man named Simon, from Cyrene, was made to carry Jesus' cross. Sometime after 9am, Jesus was nailed to the cross. Two robbers were crucified
with him, one on his right and one on his left.
Above Jesus' head was a sign with the charge against him.
The sign said "The King of the Jews". People passing by that place made
fun of Jesus.
So did the religious leaders. They mocked and taunted him.
Jesus on the Cross,
thank you for suffering so much for the salvation of the world

Wisdom 6-7: Listen, rulers of the nations, govern with
justice,
for you will be judged by the Lord. Rulers, if you want to govern successfully,
seek Wisdom and she will guide your decisions. A wise ruler is a blessing for his people.
The more wise people there are, the better our world will be. When I, Solomon, became a ruler,
I prayed for Wisdom. I prayed, and the spirit of Wisdom came to me.
In Wisdom's company, all good things came to me.
Lord, please give me the gift

93: The Lord is king, with majesty enrobed,
he has girded himself with power. The world you made firm, not to be moved.
From all eternity, O Lord, you are. The oceans and coastlines of the world
are majestic and powerful. But greater than the roar of mighty waters,
more glorious than the surging of the sea
is the Lord on high.

15.16-20: After the Roman soldiers scourged Jesus, they made fun of him.

Wisdom
3-5: When good people die, they are in God's
hands.
Even if they died a tragic death, they are at peace. A long life is not what makes a person
honorable.
Honor is due to anyone of any age who is wise and understanding. On the other hand, arrogance and misuse of
wealth
bring dishonor, in this life and in the next. Our life is short. We must live it wisely and
well.
Dear Lord, please help me to
live my life wisely and not foolishly

Psalm
92: It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning,
and your truth right through the night. Your deeds, O Lord, have made me glad.
For the work of your hands, I shout with joy. To me you give the wild ox's strength.
You anoint me with the purest oil. May we love and praise you right through our
lives,
right till the end of our days. May we keep on proclaiming your goodness,
proclaiming that in you, our rock, there is only goodness.

15.1-5: Early in the morning, the

Jesus of many crimes.

the crowd to demand
the execution of Jesus. They called out to Pilate "Crucify him".
Pilate asked "Why? What has
he done wrong?"
The crowd shouted all the louder "Crucify him. Crucify him". Giving in to the crowd, Pilate
then ordered Jesus to be scourged and crucified.

Wisdom 1-2: Love
virtue, honesty and simplicity, since God is found by people whose hearts are
seeking goodness. Selfishness, dishonesty and bad habits, these close the door
of our hearts and prevent Wisdom from entering. Bad people persecute good
people, since the lives of good people are a reproach to bad people.

shelter of the Most High says to the Lord "you are my refuge in whom I
trust". The Lord will hide you and protect you. Under his wings you will
find refuge. You will not fear any night time terror, nor any attack during the
day. Upon you no evil shall fall, no plague approach where you dwell. For you
has he commanded his angels to keep you safe in all your ways.

14.66-72: Peter went to the
place where the religious leaders had Jesus on trial. A young woman in the
courtyard of the place said to him "You were with Jesus, the man from
Nazareth". Peter replied "I don't know what you're talking
about". Peter went to the gateway of the place, where the woman saw him
again and said to people around her "This man is one of them". Peter
denied it. Not long after this a group of people said to Peter "You are his
friend. We can tell by your Galilean accent". Then Peter even more strongly
replied "I do not know the man". At that very moment, a rooster
crowed. Peter remembered Jesus' words "Before the rooster crows, you will
deny me three times". Peter then wept loudly.
Jesus, please help me not to deny you. Give
me courage to say "I am a Christian"
