Isaiah 1: Listen, heaven and
earth,
for the Lord is speaking: "The ox knows its
owner and the donkey its master's crib.
But my people have rebelled against me. I am tired of your
hypocritical lives,
tired of offerings given with dirty hands. You are so greedy for
profit,
always looking for bribes. Take your wrong-doing
out of my sight.
Stop doing evil. Learn to do good.
Practise justice towards the poor.
Help the oppressed, the orphan and the widow. Then, though your sins
are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow."
Lord,
please help me "wash my hands" by doing good for poor people
My
recording of this reading
Psalm
116: I love the Lord for he has heard the cry of
my appeal.
He turned his ear to me in the day when I called him. They surrounded me, sorrow, distress and the
snares of death.
I was helpless, so the Lord saved me. Calm down my soul, for the Lord has been good.
I will walk in the presence of the Lord in the land of the living. How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to
me?
The cup of salvation I will raise to thank the Lord. O precious in the eyes of the Lord is the
death of his faithful.
Lord, you have loosened my bonds. I am your servant.
Thank you, Lord, for all your
goodness to me

Acts
6.8-15: One of the seven deacons, Stephen, was filled
with grace and power.
He began to do many miracles. A group of Jews tried to beat Stephen in a
debate. But they could not win, because the Holy Spirit was guiding
Stephen in his speech. The group then got some men to falsely accuse
Stephen of being disloyal to Moses and to God. The group had Stephen arrested and brought
before a meeting of the religious leaders. At the meeting, false witnesses
accused Stephen of speaking against Moses and the Law.
Jesus, please protect people who are accused
by false witnesses

Luke
6.46-49:
In his teaching, Jesus said "Why do you call
me 'Lord', yet do not do what I ask you to do? Anyone who comes to me and listens to my words
and puts them into practice is like a man who built his house on a solid
foundation. That house was so well
built that even floods could not damage it. But anyone who listens and does not put my
words into practice is like a man who built his house without a
foundation. As soon as floods came, the house collapsed".
Jesus, please help me put your words into
practice; help me apply them in my daily life

51: When I was young, before I became a traveler,
I prayed for wisdom. Thanks to wisdom, I have been successful in my
work.
And so I finish this book by praising the God who gave me wisdom: I give thanks to you, Lord and King,
and praise you, God my savior. For by wisdom you have protected and supported
me,
and rescued me from so many troubles. I will praise you all my days

Acts
6.1-7: About this time as the number of disciples
kept growing, the twelve apostles decided to give other men the job of
daily food distribution. The apostles said to the whole group of
believers "It is not right for us to neglect the service of the
word. Therefore you should choose seven men of good reputation, filled
with the Holy Spirit and with wisdom. We give them the food
distribution job, so that we can devote ourselves to prayer
and the service of the word". The whole assembly approved of this idea. They
chose seven men and presented them to the apostles who prayed over them
with the laying on of hands. The word of the Lord continued to spread. Even
a large number of priests became believers.

tree does not produce good fruit. The fruit tells you what sort of tree it

Sun March 11
Because I spent all Friday at the Court of Appeal, I couldn't make my usual Friday visit to Lai Chi Kok men's prison ...so I went yesterday afternoon ....mainly to see inmates who are preparing for court cases....hoping that the proposed changes to HK's sentencing policy (see menu of March 10) will come in time to help the inmates receive a better deal at their trials.
From a reader in Australia: Have
just watched and listened to Mary McAleese’s keynote address to the "Why
Women Matter" conference in Rome. This address is an historic moment in the
life of our Church. Mary has "laid down the gauntlet" to Pope Francis
and his curial cardinal courtiers. I cannot see how any of these gentlemen will
be able to continue into the future the line, attitude, and stance that they
have taken up to this day. PLEASE WATCH AND LISTEN.
Video is

I found it a
special pleasure to listen to Mary's beautiful English ...so clear....a powerful
support for her moving message.

2 Kings 21-25: Josiah king of Judah was a good leader who
loved the Lord.
and promoted religious reform. But most other kings of Judah and Israel at
this time
were not good. The country was invaded by the king of Babylon who deported most of the population to Babylon.
Only the poorest people in the countryside were left behind.
Dear God, please give the
world good leaders
My
recording of this reading
Psalm 137: By the rivers of Babylon we sat and cried,
remembering Zion.
On the poplars that grew there we hung up our harps. For it was there that they asked us, our
captors, for songs.
"Sing to us", they said, "one of Zion's songs". O how could we sing the song of the Lord on
alien soil?
If I forget you, Jerusalem, let my right hand wither. O let my tongue cleave to my mouth
if I remember you not, Jerusalem, above all my joys.
Lord, please help people
who have been exiled from their homeland

2.4-10: God loved us so much, that when we were dead
through our sins,
he brought us to life with Christ. We are God's work of art, created in Christ
Jesus to live a life of goodness, as God originally intended us to
live.
Heavenly Father, help me live my life the way
you want me to live it

John
3.13-17: Jesus said to the religious leader:
"The Son of Man must be lifted up on a cross, as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so that everyone who
believes may have eternal life in him". God loved the world so much, that he gave his
only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost, but may
have eternal life. For God sent his Son into the world, not to
condemn the world,
but so that through him the world might be saved.
Jesus, only Son of God the Father, thank you
for coming into this world. Please help more and more people believe in
you

Sat March 10
Yesterday I was at the High Court from 9am to 4pm, first to sign an affidavit for a case at the end of the month, and then for a Court of Appeal case before 3 judges....triggered by my anti-drug campaign which has raised the question "should defendants be given a discount for helping the campaign pre-sentence?". Case has opened up the whole issue of HK's sentencing policy for drug mules....to the point where the 3 judges have adjourned the case to next Wednesday afternoon when they will decide on whether or not to "re-assemble" at a further date as a five-judge panel which will consider the question of reassessing present policy. This is a land-mark case which hopefully will help defendants in future to get a fairer deal. God bless the judges!

44-50: It is good to remember the famous people in

Acts
5.34-42:
One religious leader at the meeting, Gamaliel,
asked that the apostles be removed from the room. Then he spoke to the
other leaders: "Men of Israel, be careful how you deal
with these people. If this movement of theirs is of human origin, it will
die out of its own accord. But if it comes from God, you will not be able
to destroy it. You might even find yourselves fighting against God". His advice was accepted. The apostles were
warned, flogged and released. They left the meeting glad to have had the
honor of suffering humiliation for the sake of Jesus. They resumed their
daily preaching, in the Temple and in private homes

Sirach 42-43: What an amazing world

The Creator sure did a good job programming everything! Great is the Lord who
made the sun, the moon and stars.
What a beautiful creature is the rainbow! The seasons, the rain,
the snow, lightning and thunder:
all proclaim the glory of God. How great is God who

112: Happy are people who love and honor the Lord,
who take delight in his commands.
The children of such people will be blessed. Such people are a light in the darkness for
others.
Such people are generous, merciful and just. They take pity and help those in need.
They conduct their affairs with integrity. Open-handed they give to the poor.
Their justice and goodness will never be forgotten.

Acts
5.21-33: When the leaders had their big meeting later
that same morning, they sent for the apostles to be brought from prison. The police went to the prison, then came back
and reported to the leaders "We found that the prison was properly
locked, and the guards were on duty. But when we unlocked the door, there
was no one inside". Then a man arrived at the meeting with the
news "At this very moment, the men you imprisoned are now in the
Temple preaching to the people". The police again arrested the apostles and
brought them to the meeting.
When the main religious leader reminded them of his previous warning not
to preach, Peter and the apostles replied "Obedience to God comes
before obedience to men. God raised Jesus up to be the Savior. We are
witnesses to this, we and the Holy Spirit whom God gives to those who obey
him". This made the leaders so angry that they
wanted to kill the apostles.
Jesus, please help me put obedience to you
before all other obediences

6.20-26: Jesus said to his disciples
"Blessed are you who are poor: yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who are hungry: you shall be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now: you shall be happy. Blessed are you when people hate you because
of me:
your reward will be great in heaven. But alas for you who are rich: your consolation is
only in this world.
Alas for you who have plenty to eat: you shall go hungry.
Alas for you who laugh now: you shall mourn and weep".
Jesus, please help me to give more time and
importance to the things that really matter

Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon, Judas
son of James - and Judas Iscariot who became a traitor. Jesus and the 12 came down from the hill to a
place of level ground.
Gathered there were his many disciples and a large crowd of people from

Reflection on the above Bible readings - Wikipedia: An apostle /əˈpɒsəl/, in its most literal sense, is an emissary, from Greek ἀπόστολος (apóstolos), literally "one who is sent off", from the verb ἀποστέλλειν (apostéllein), "to send off". The purpose of such sending off is usually to convey a message, and thus "messenger" is a common alternative translation; other common translations include "ambassador" and "envoy"

38-39: All healing is a gift of God.
To obtain healing: pray to the Lord, ask forgiveness for sin,
then follow the doctor's advice. Mourn for the dead and honor their
graves,
but do not let your heart be controlled by grief. Ordinary working people have little time for
study.
But the Lord blesses everyone who studies wisdom.

109-110: O God whom I praise,
do not be silent,
for people are bombarding me with words of hate. They speak to me with
lying tongues
and attack me without cause. They repay me evil for
good.
While I pray for them, they show me hatred. I have become an object

Acts
5.12-16: All the believers used to meet regularly in an
area of the Temple. Their numbers kept on increasing. So many miracles kept happening that sick
people were laid on beds on the street, in the hope that at least

6.6-11:
On another Sabbath Jesus visited a prayer hall.
A man with a withered hand was in the prayer hall. Some religious leaders were watching to see if
Jesus would heal the man (since no work was allowed on the Sabbath, and
they regarded healing as work). Jesus knew what they were thinking, so
he said to the man with the withered hand "Stand up! Come out into
the middle of the hall".
He came out and stood there. Jesus then asked the leaders
"Is it against the law on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil; to
save life or to destroy it?" Then he said to the man with the withered hand
"Stretch out your hand". He stretched it out. It was healed. The leaders were very angry. They
left the prayer hall
and began plotting how to get rid of Jesus
