Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception
Readings here
Reflection:
At the dawn of human history, when the
first humans compromised with evil, God let it be known that a woman would play
a crucial role in Plan B
As time went on, Plan B became clearer: a Messiah, a suffering Messiah, born of a virgin
After Jesus' ascension, as the first Christians reflected on the role of that virgin, they called her the New Eve
Later on they realized the power of her prayers and her close association with her Son in the work of redemption.
By
the eighth century people were celebrating the feast of Mary's Immaculate
Conception. In 1854 Pope Pius IX defined the Immaculate Conception as a dogma of
the Church
We
declare, pronounce and define that the doctrine which holds that the Blessed
Virgin Mary, at the first instant of her conception, by a singular privilege and
grace of the Omnipotent God, in virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, the
Saviour of mankind, was preserved immaculate from all stain of original sin, has
been revealed by God, and therefore should firmly and constantly be believed by
all the faithful.
Prayer:
Hail
Mary, conceived without sin, the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women. And blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus
