Readings
for the Fourth Sunday of Advent
The first reading:
The Messiah will be a person of peace, a Shepherd, and will be born in
Bethlehem
Responsorial Psalm: Prayer
to the Shepherd for help
The second reading: The obedience of the Messiah
Gospel: The teenage Mary visits her older cousin Elizabeth
Reflection:
Mary did not sit at home with her feet up watching TV
thinking about herself and her baby.
No, as quickly as she could she went (walking?, by donkey?, with a group?) more
than 100 km to visit Elizabeth.
Jesus is not someone for keeping to ourselves. Jesus is someone to be shared
with others.
And that sharing, when we help others come in contact with Jesus, is a happy
moment
....as it was for Mary and Elizabeth when the baby John the Baptist jumped
for joy in his mother's womb
because Jesus was near in Mary's womb.
Despite the sadnesses and crosses of life, our Christianity should contain a
strong element of "jumping for Jesus"!
Prayer: Jesus,
son of Mary, may we do more to help other people know the joy of knowing you
