Readings for Dec 24

The first reading:  The Messiah will be a descendant of King David. He will be a king

Responsorial Psalm: Praise God for the coming Messiah-King

Gospel:  Zechariah's famous prayer The Benedictus, summing up the human family's longing,
on this Christmas Eve, for the birth of the Messiah

Reflection:
Zechariah's words beautifully sum up the meaning of Christmas:
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Prayer: Jesus, son of Mary, Light of the World, please shine brightly this Christmas
in our hearts, in our families, in our world

To John and all who contribute to this site this short pray.

May the light of the new-born Jesus
Dwell in our hearts.
Its radiance embellish itself within us
And the gift of His joy/peace be ours

Kevin your brother in Christ.

A few hours later many people will be happy because of Christmas .However we must not forget that many people are in pain and sadness. They cant celebrate Christmas with joy like us. Jesus also wants them to rejoice. Pray for them. Peace and love.
Amen

Love of a Father, shining in each happening
Both sweet and bitter

Praying TOGETHER is powerful!

I attended the Christmas midnight Mass on 24th at the Cathedral, as the crowd is normally quite big this time of the year, I went there 2 hours ahead of the mass to secure a seat as it was forecasted to be a very cold night and didnt fancy standing outside the church. It is a really touching scene to see such a large crowd inspite of the cold and the lateness of the night. I am so happy to see so many catholics (I think more than half only attend Mass this time of the year once a year) but nonetheless joy in seeing so many returning "sheep" to welcome our saviour !
