R-R-P  Reading - Reflection - Prayer   Jan 4, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Job 11-14

Zophar then said that Job must still have some secret sins of which he had not repented.

Job sarcastically replied:
"No doubt you are the voice of the people
and when you die, wisdom will die with you.

I am only too aware that God knows everything.
How could I hide anything from him?

God, why do you hide your face?
Why do you look on me as an enemy?"

Reflection:
Job argues strongly with God, questions God, criticizes God
....as have done many famous saints
...and Jesus gives a hint about liking to be pestered (story of unjust judge pestered by widow)

Prayer: Dear God,  please give us trust and courage in time of trial

Reading:  Psalm 97

The Lord is king, let earth rejoice,
the many coastlands be glad.

Cloud and darkness are his robes.
His throne is justice and goodness.

The skies proclaim his goodness.
All peoples see his glory.

Let those who serve idols be ashamed.
Let all creation worship  the Creator.

Light shines forth for good people
and joy for the upright of heart.

Rejoice in the Lord, all good people.
Give glory to his holy name.

Reflection:
"I see the stars....and say...How great Thou art, How great Thou art"

Prayer: Lord, you are our Creator. We love and praise you

Reading:  1 John 4

Let us love one another.
Love comes from God.
God is love

God showed his love for us
by sending his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins

Since God has loved us so much
we should love one another

God is love.
Anyone who lives in love, lives in God,
and God lives in him

Reflection:
God has been so good to us.
Can we show a bit more goodness to others?

Prayer: Jesus, you are love itself. May I live in your love

Reading:  John 12

People who had gone to Jerusalem for the Passover,
heard that Jesus was coming down to Jerusalem from Bethany

They used palm branches as they  went out to meet him,
shouting "Hosanna! Blessings on the King of Israel who comes in the name of the Lord"

Jesus rode a young donkey down the hill, just as the Scriptures had predicted:
"Daughter of Sion, behold! Your king is coming, mounted on the colt of a donkey"

Some religious leaders said to each other
"Look, there is nothing you can do. The whole world is running after him"

Reflection: May we by like the donkey....carrying Jesus to others!

Prayer: Jesus, humbly entering Jerusalem on a donkey,
may you be known and welcomed and praised by the whole world
