 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   Jan 21, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Proverbs 9

Wisdom has built herself a house,
she has erected 7 pillars.

She has sent out her maidservants
to proclaim from the city's heights:

"Come and eat my bread,
drink the wine I have prepared.

Leave your foolishness and you will live.
Come and walk in the way of wisdom."

Reflection:
"Bread" and "wine" are can be linked with Communion:
when we receive Jesus' Body and Blood we are receiving Wisdom Itself.
Each Communion is a Wisdom moment....and an invitation to help others know about Jesus' desire that more people "come and eat...drink"

Prayer: Jesus, may each time we receive you in Communion be a growth-in-wisdom time

Reading:  Psalms 111

I will thank the Lord with all my heart.
Great are the works of the Lord,
to be pondered by all who love him.

His goodness stands firm for ever.
The Lord is compassion and love.

His precepts are for all peoples and all times.
He is to be honored by all nations.

To love and honor the Lord
is the beginning of wisdom.

Reflection:
Another reminder: wisdom can't be obtained from a supermarket or downloaded from the internet. It has only one source: God.  Just like genuine sunshine has only one source: the sun

Prayer:  Dear Lord, source of wisdom, please help me to love and honor you every day

Reading:  Revelation 5

I saw a sealed scroll that no one could open.
Then I saw a Lamb, which seemed to have been sacrificed

The Lamb took the scroll, and the 24 elders sang a new song:

"You are worthy to take the scroll
and break its seals
because you were sacrificed, and by your blood
you ransomed us for God
out of every race, language, people and nation"

Reflection:
The Lamb is Jesus. He can break any seal....even the seal of a cold hard tomb.
Problems - "seals" - no human can solve, Jesus can take care of

Prayer: Jesus,  Lamb of God in heaven, please take care of the big problems in our lives, in our families, in our Church, in our world

Reading:  John 18

The main religious leader interrogated  Jesus about his teaching.
Jesus told him "I have spoken openly in prayer halls and in the Temple.
I have said nothing in secret. The people can tell you what I said"

At these words, one of the guards slapped Jesus in the face,
saying "Don't speak to the leader like that".
Jesus replied "If I said  something wrong, point it out.
But if there was nothing wrong with my words, why did you hit me?"

Meanwhile Peter was outside in the courtyard, keeping warm by a fire.
Three times he was asked by different people if he was a disciple of Jesus.
Three times he replied "I am not". After his third denial, a rooster crowed

Reflection:
Jesus' words "why did you hit me?" show it's ok to speak up for our rights when we are treated unjustly

Prayer: Jesus, on trial before the leaders, please bless everyone on trial today, in every country
