 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   Feb 19, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  The Song of Songs 1-2

The bride says:
Kiss me. Your love is better than wine.
How right it is to love you, you whom my heart loves.

The groom says:
How beautiful you are, my love, how beautiful you are.

The bride:
He has taken me to his banquet hall
and
his banner over me is love.

The groom:
Come then, my love, my lovely one, come.
Show me your face and let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet and your face is beautiful.

The bride:
My beloved is mine and I am his.

Reflection:
The groom is God. The bride is each one of us.
God is madly in love with us.
A famous song His Banner Over Me Is Love

Prayer: Dear God, please give me a lover's love for you

Reading: Psalm 135

Praise the name of the Lord,
praise him, servants of the Lord.

Praise the Lord for he is good.
Sing a psalm to his name for he is loving.

I know the Lord is great. He does whatever he wills
in heaven, on earth, in the seas.

Pagan idols are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.

They have mouths but they cannot speak.
They have eyes but they cannot see.

Sons of Israel, do not trust in useless idols.
Sons of Aaron, trust only in our Creator and Lord.

Reflection:
We should love our parents......and we should love our Creator.
Not to love our parents....a very sad situation.
Not to love God....the saddest of all situations

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help people who worship idols to know and love you

Reading:  Acts 1

After Jesus went up to heaven from the Mount of Olives,
the apostles went back down to Jerusalem, a walk of about half a kilometer

They gathered in an upstairs room which they used as a meeting place.
The 11 apostles were Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon and Jude

They spent a long time praying.
With them were several women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and also Jesus' brothers

Reflection:
May the cardinals in their meeting to select the next pope
be like the apostles .....with Mary waiting for a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit

Prayer: Jesus, please help the cardinals imitate the apostles and Mary ....and be open to the grace of the Holy Spirit

Reading:  Matthew 6

Jesus said to the crowds:

When you do a good deed,
do it for its own sake, not just to get people to praise you.

When you pray, love to pray in private in your heart.
Don't be looking for people to notice and praise you.

When you pray, there's no need to rave on and on.
God is not deaf. Prayer is not a lawyer arguing a case.
Prayer is a child speaking with simple trust like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may everyone love and honor you.

Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as in heaven.

Thank you for enough food for today.
Forgive us as we forgive others.

Save us in time of trial.
Protect us from evil

Reflection:
The reason we say "Our Father" and not "My Father" is because each time we pray the Lord's Prayer, Jesus prays with us. The Lord's Prayer is never a one person prayer. It's always at least two persons: Jesus + one or more

Prayer: Jesus, please help me remember that each time I pray "The Our Father", you are praying with me.

Remember it is "Our Father", "我們的天父" Let us pray:
我們的天父,天父的名受顯揚;天父的國來臨;天父的旨意奉行在人間,如同在天上。
求天父今天賞給我們日用的食糧;求天父寬恕我們的罪過,如同我們寬恕別人一樣;
不要讓我們陷於誘惑;但救我們免於凶惡。亞孟。
