 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   Feb 25, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Wisdom 1-2

Love virtue, honesty and simplicity,
since God is found by people whose hearts are seeking goodness.

Selfishness, dishonesty and bad habits,
these close the door of our hearts and prevent Wisdom from entering.

Bad people persecute good people,
since the lives of good people are a reproach to bad people.

Reflection:
The better I am as a person, the wiser I will be.
The worse I am as a person, the stupider I will be.
Really good people are genuinely wise.
Really bad people are really stupid

Prayer: Lord, please help me to be a good person

Reading: Psalm 140-143

Lord, save me from people who do evil,
you who do justice for the needy.

I have no way out of this situation.
And no one wants to help me.

Lord, I beg you tonight to make haste and give me an answer,
for my spirit fails within me.

In the morning let me know your love
for I put my trust in you.

Reflection:
The bigger our problems, the more we need to trust God
(..as well as do everything we can/should do from a human point of view).
Easer said than done.
Easy to trust God when life is going smoothly.
Not so easy to trust God when we are in big trouble

Prayer: Lord, please help people who are in big trouble....to increase their trust in you

Reading:  Acts 2

The crowd was deeply moved by Peter's words, and asked "What should we do?"
Peter replied "You must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
Then you too will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit".
That day about 3,000 people were baptized

These remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles,
to a life of sharing and caring, to the Breaking of Bread, and to prayer

Many miracles were worked by the apostles, and this made a deep impression on everyone.
Each day the Lord added new members to their group

Reflection:
Being a genuine Christian means remaining faithful to
- the teaching of the apostles
- a life of sharing and caring
- the Breaking of Bread (= Eucharist)
-  prayer

Prayer:  Jesus, please help me remain faithful to the Christian way of life

Reading:  Matthew 8

In the town of Capernaum, a Roman army captain said to Jesus
"Sir, my servant is paralyzed and in great pain."
Jesus replied "I will go and heal him".

But the captain said
"Sir, I am not worthy that you should enter my house.
Just say the word and my servant will be healed.

For I understand orders. I give an order, and people act.
I know that you also just need to give an order,
and my servant will be healed".

Jesus said
"This foreigner's faith is greater than that of the local people.
And I  tell you that in the future
people from all parts of the world will be in the kingdom of heaven".

Then Jesus said to the captain
"Go home. Your request made in
faith is granted".

And the servant was healed at that moment.

Reflection:
Not always, but most of the time, when Jesus healed someone,
the word "faith" was involved.
The more faith we have, the more Jesus can help us

Prayer: Jesus, please give more people,
from all parts of the world, the faith of the captain
