 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   Feb 27, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Wisdom 6-7

Listen, rulers of the nations, govern with justice,
for you will be judged by the Lord.

Rulers, if you want to govern successfully,
seek Wisdom and she will guide your decisions.

A wise ruler is a blessing for his people.
The more wise people there are, the better our world will be.

When I, Solomon, became a ruler,
I prayed for Wisdom.

I prayed, and the spirit of Wisdom came to me.
In Wisdom's company, all good things came to me.

Reflection:
We know from another part of the Bible that Solomon could have asked for long life, or riches, or the lives of his enemies, but he chose Wisdom. May his example be followed by more leaders. To be honest, can you think of a present world leader noted for wisdom?  "A wise modern leader" in Google produces....no one in first few pages at least. Wisdom is not a value highly prized or talked about in our modern world.  But it should be. Let's pray each day for our country's leader(s) to be wise people

Prayer:
Lord, please bless the leaders of my country with good health, courage and Wisdom

Psalm 145

I will give you glory, O God my king.
I will bless your name day after day.

The Lord is great, worthy of all praise.
His greatness cannot be measured.

Age to age shall proclaim your works,
shall speak of your splendor and glory.

The Lord is kind and full of compassion,
slow to anger, abounding in love.

How good is the Lord to all,
compassionate to all his creatures.

All your creatures shall thank you, O Lord,
and tell all the world of your love.

The Lord is faithful in all his words
and loving in all his deeds.

The Lord supports all who fall
and raises all who are bowed down.

The eyes of all creatures look to you
and you give them their food each day.

The Lord is close to all who call him,
who call on him from their hearts.

Let the whole world bless the Lord's holy name,
for ever, for ages unending.

Reflection:
When a parent or spouse is dying, the one thing children or spouse say is "thank you for your love".
That sums up everything else.
Same with God.
And as we get older, we pray more simply in words that sum up everything else:

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your love. Thank you for your love

Reading:  Acts 3

When people saw the former crippled man walking, they couldn't believe their eyes.
So Peter said to them "Why are you so surprised? Do you think John and I made this cripple walk?

It is by our faith in Jesus that this man has been restored to health.

Jesus is the Holy One, the Just One, the Prince of Life whom you handed over to Pilate for crucifixion.
But God raised him from the dead

Reflection:
Healing by prayer usually involves faith, the faith of a sick person or the faith of someone praying for a sick person.
If we have more faith, our prayers do more for sick people

Prayer:  Jesus, Prince of Life, please increase my faith in you.
Please give me a faith that can bring your  healing to handicapped people

Reading:  Matthew 8

Jesus and his "fisher of men" friends got into a boat
to cross the lake near Capernaum.

Jesus was so tired that he went to sleep in the boat.
Then a sudden storm caused big waves to lash the boat.

Jesus' friends woke him up  and said
"Save us, Lord, we are sinking".

Jesus stood up, and ordered the wind and sea to be calm.
Straight away the wind and sea were calm.

Jesus' friends said to each other
"Who is this? Even the wind and sea obey him."

Reflection:
If we find ourselves in a situation where people are having an argument,
just think of Jesus, say the name "Jesus" silently in your heart....and the argument will soon stop.
Jesus calms every storm.
Elvis Presley - YouTube: Put your hand in the hand of the man who stilled the water

Prayer: Jesus, please calm the storms in my life, my family, our world
