 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   May 22, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Isaiah 62

The Lord says:
"My eyes are drawn to the humble and contrite person
who lovingly meditates on my word.

Towards Jerusalem I will send peace,
flowing like a river.

I am going to gather the nations of every language.
All peoples will know and love me

Reflection:
When students do their homework, parents and teachers are happy.
When we try to give a bit of time to Bible study and reflection each day, God is happy

Prayer: Lord, please give me more love for the Bible

Reading:  Psalm 81

Ring out your joy to God our strength,
shout in triumph to the God of Jacob.

Listen to the voice of the Lord:

"I am the Lord your God
who brought you out from the land of Egypt.

Let there be no foreign god among you,
no worship of a false god.

O that my people would heed me,
that Israel would
walk in my ways.

At once I would subdue their foes.
But Israel I would feed with finest wheat and honey".

Reflection:
Daily Bible reading is one basic way of "listening to the voice of the Lord", "heeding the Lord", "walking in the Lord's way"

Prayer:
Lord, please help us to walk in your ways, especially by our love for Bible reading

Reading:  Acts 21

Our sea voyage took us to the city of Caesarea.
A prophet there took Paul's belt and used it to tie up his own feet and hands,
as a sign of what would happen to Paul in Jerusalem

Everyone implored Paul not to go to Jerusalem.
Paul replied "I am ready not only to be tied up,
but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus"

And so we packed up and headed for Jerusalem

Reflection:
Jesus "resolutely took the road to Jerusalem" ...so did Paul....so must we - by doing our duties despite opposition, difficulties, disappointments etc

Prayer:
Jesus, please give me a bit of Paul's courage, your courage....in taking the road to Jerusalem

Reading:  Matthew 26

While Jesus was still speaking, Judas arrived.
Judas had with him a large crowd of men with swords and clubs,
sent by the religious leaders

Judas had told these men "The one I kiss is the man. Take him".
So Judas went up to Jesus, said "Greetings, Master" and kissed him. The men  then seized Jesus

Jesus said to them "Am I a robber that you needed to capture me
with swords and clubs?  Day after day I was openly teaching in the Temple"

All of Jesus' apostles then deserted him and ran away

Reflection:  Jesus must have felt a special sorrow and pain when his friends deserted him in his time of trial

Prayer: Jesus, please give us strength when friends go missing in our time of trial
