Readings for Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne
1st Reading: It's good to remember good people of the past, especially our own family members
Responsorial Psalm: Jesus' family tree goes back to and through King David
Gospel: Good people in Israel's family tree longed to see the Messiah
Reflection:
According to John's Gospel, Mary the mother of Jesus and her sister were
at the foot of Jesus' Cross (Jn 19.25) - so, legendary stories about Mary being
an only child are fiction.
The Gospels tell us nothing about Mary's parents...no names...no information
about any other children. But as Jesus' only grandparents, Mary's parents, and
the grandparents of the apostles James and John, they deserve honour.
