  Reading:  Genesis 29

Jacob went to the home of his uncle Laban, in Haran.

Laban had two daughters,
Leah and Rachel.
Jacob fell in love with Rachel.

Jacob made an agreement with Laban:
Jacob would work for Laban for seven years
in return for marriage to Rachel.

For Jacob,  the seven years
went quickly
because he loved Rachel so dearly.

But Laban forced Jacob to marry both Leah and Rachel
and made him work for another seven years as well.

Reflection:
When you like what you're doing, time goes quickly.

Prayer: Dear God, please help me enjoy my work

Reading: Psalm 7

Lord God, I take refuge in you.
Please rescue me from people who are trying to hurt me.

Lord, please stop bad people from doing bad things.
Please help good people to keep on doing good things.

Lord, I will sing to you and thank you for your goodness to me.

Reflection:
May Pope Francis reform the Church's structures so that good things increase and bad things decrease

Prayer: Lord, please help us avoid evil and do good

Reading:  2 Corinthians 8-9

Remember how generous the Lord Jesus was.
He was rich, but he became poor for our sake, to make us rich

So we also should help people who are poor.
If we have extra we should help people who don't have enough

Maybe some day, the same poor people will be rich,
and we will be poor, and they will help us

And don't forget, God loves a cheerful giver

Reflection:
Can those of us who have extra do more to help those who don't have enough?

Prayer: Jesus, help me do more to help poor people

Reading: Mark 15

Joseph from Arimathaea was a rich man who had become a disciple of Jesus. After Jesus died on Friday, he asked Governor Pilate for Jesus' body.

Joseph wrapped the body in a clean burial cloth and put it in a tomb in a rock cave. He then put a large stone at the cave's entrance.

Mary of Magdala and another woman watched Joseph as he put Jesus' body in the tomb

Reflection:
When someone dies, we feel so powerless, so useless.
On the heavenly front, we can try praying (...not so easy at such a time).
On the human front we can show kindness and concern,
like Joseph of Arimathaea and Mary of Magdala

Prayer Jesus, at a time of bereavement, please help me show kindness and concern
