  Reading:  Genesis 46

Jacob and his whole family, about 70 people,
took all their possessions and moved to Egypt.

God said to Jacob "I myself will go down to Egypt with you".

Joseph was ready for their arrival in Egypt.
As soon as his father appeared, Joseph ran to greet him.
Joseph threw his arms around his father
and cried for a long time on his father's shoulder.

Jacob said to Joseph
"Now that I have seen you again,
I can die in peace".

Reflection:
Someone has said that the experience of Jacob and Joseph meeting, and the joy they shared,  is a hint of the joy we shall know when we meet The Father face to face in Heaven (...and throw our arms around him?...)

Prayer: Dear God, please help separated family members
to be re-united again

Reading: Psalm 32

Happy is the person whose sin is forgiven.

For a while I refused to ask for forgiveness,
and my body paid the penalty.

But then I said "Lord, forgive me"
and my spirit and body revived.

Reflection:
An article on guilt and health

Prayer: Lord, when I do wrong, please give me the grace to say sorry and ask forgiveness

Reading:  Ephesians 1

From Paul, appointed to be an apostle of Christ Jesus.
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ

Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Before the world was made, he chose us in Christ,
to live through love in his presence

He chose us, in Christ, to be his adopted children,
to make us praise the glory of his grace

This grace is his free gift to us in his Beloved Son,
through whose blood we gain our freedom
and the forgiveness of our sins

Reflection:
The word "adopted" above means more than its ordinary use in English today. See: Adoption in Ephesians and Galatians

Prayer: Father, thank you for upgrading me
from human child to Divine Child!

Reading:  Luke 3

People asked John the Baptist how they should reform their lives.
He replied:

"If anyone has extra clothing, share with people who have none.
If anyone has plenty to eat, share with people who have nothing"

Tax collectors asked John what they should do.
He replied "Don't cheat anyone"

Soldiers asked him "What about us? What must we do?"
He replied "No bullying. No extortion. Be content with your pay"

Reflection:
John's words sound like the words of Pope Francis:
share ....fair.....care

Prayer: Jesus, what about me? What should I do?
