  Reading:  Exodus 2

One Israelite mother hid her baby boy for three months.

When she could no longer hide him
she put him in a basket
and placed the basket among reeds near a river bank.

The basket was found by Pharaoh's daughter
when she went to bathe in the river.
She felt sorry for the baby and decided to keep it.

The baby's sister saw all this happen
and asked Pharaoh's daughter if she'd like a nurse for the baby.

Pharaoh's daughter agreed,
and so the baby's mother was paid by Pharaoh's daughter
to be the baby's nurse.

When the child was weaned,
he was taken to Pharaoh's daughter
who treated him like her own son.
She named the baby Moses.

When Moses became a man,
he visited the Israelites and saw their hard life.

He saw an Egyptian hit one of the Israelites
so he killed the Egyptian and hid his body in the sand.

But people found out;
and so did Pharaoh who decided to kill Moses.

Moses then fled to the land of Midian.

The priest of Midian had 7 daughters.
One day when they drew water for their father's sheep
they were driven away from the well by some shepherds.

Moses protected them from the shepherds
and helped them get water from the well.

Their father, Jethro, was grateful to Moses
and invited him for a meal.

Moses then stayed with Jethro
who gave him his daughter Zipporah for a wife.

Reflection:
The above story is brilliantly told in one of my favourite DVDs for English study: The Prince of Egypt

Prayer: Dear God, please protect all new-born babies,
especially baby girls.

Reading: Psalms 38-39

O Lord, please forgive my sins and heal me.
Heal my body which is sick because of my sins.

Protect me, Lord, from those who gloat over me
now that I am brought low and unable to help myself.

Lord, you have shown me how short a time I have on earth.
Lord, give me wisdom of heart to live my life better.

Reflection:
Times of serious illness are usually times of serious thinking about the purpose of our lives

Prayer: Lord, help us better understand the meaning of life

Reading:  Ephesians 2

God loved us so much, that when we were dead through our sins,
he brought us to life with Christ

We are God's work of art, created in Christ Jesus to live a life of goodness,
as God originally intended us to live

Reflection:
God doesn't make junk!

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, help me live my life the way you want me to live it

Reading:  Luke 4

People in the prayer hall rejected Jesus. "Who does he think he is?" they asked. "He's just the son of Joseph"

Jesus replied "No prophet is ever accepted in his own country"

The angry people then took Jesus by force to the edge of the hill on which  Nazareth  was built. They planned to throw him down the cliff.
But Jesus escaped from them and went away

Reflection:
A Chinese saying: "local ginger is not hot".
How fickle we humans are ....not willing to acknowledge goodness and talent in those closest to us

Prayer: Jesus, please help us see the goodness and talent of people closest to us
