  Reading:  Leviticus 8-10

Moses followed God's instructions
and ordained Aaron and his sons as priests.

Moses washed them, put special clothing on them,
anointed their heads with chrism
and offered a special animal sacrifice on their behalf.

Then Aaron lifted up his hands towards the people
and blessed them.

A  flame from the Lord consumed the offering on the altar.
The people shouted for joy and fell on their knees.

But later on when two of Aaron's sons offered unauthorized fire
a fire from the Lord consumed them.

Moses then said:
"God expects the highest standard from priests".

Reflection:
The very first Old Testament priestly family had problems: two sons fired.
The very first New Testament priestly family had problems: Judas and Peter

Prayer:
Dear God, please bless and protect all priests

Reading: Psalm 100

Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing for joy.

Know that he, the Lord, is God. He made us, we belong to him.
We are his people, the sheep of his flock.

Go within his gates, giving thanks.
Enter his temple with songs of praise.
Give thanks to him and bless his name.

Indeed, how good is the Lord,
eternal his merciful love.
He is faithful from age to age.

Reflection:
A stirring rendition of this psalm is The Old 100th
 - as in this famous video of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth

Prayer:  Dear Lord, please help us to serve you with gladness,
even in - especially in - times of difficulty

Reading:  1 Thessalonians 1

From Paul, Silvanus and Timothy
to the Church of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
in Thessalonika. Wishing you grace and peace

In my prayers for you, I thank God our Father for your faith in action, your work for love, and your persevering hope

When we brought the Good News to you, it came to you not just as words, but as power from the Holy Spirit

By the grace of the Holy Spirit, you accepted the Good News,
despite great opposition from many quarters

Reflection:
Is the presentation of the Good News today coming just as words or as power from the Holy Spirit?

Prayer:
Jesus, help people accept the Good News, despite opposition

Reading:  Luke 11

While Jesus was speaking, a woman in the crowd called out
"Blessed the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you"

Jesus replied "Even more blessed are those who hear the word of God and put it into practice!"

Jesus also said "On Judgement day, the Queen of the South will rise up with the people of this generation and condemn them, because she came from a distant country to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here"

Reflection:
Putting Jesus' words into practice brings blessings.
Refusing to put Jesus' words into practice ....is turning our back on wisdom

Prayer:
Jesus, greater than Solomon, please help me put your teaching into practice ...help me be a "practising" Christian!
