  Reading:  Numbers 9

Whenever the Israelites pitched camp
the Cloud of God's presence covered the Sacred Tent.

From nightfall until morning,
the Cloud took the appearance of fire.

Whenever the Cloud lifted above the Tent,
the Israelites broke camp.

Wherever the Cloud stopped,
there the Israelites pitched camp.

Sometimes the Cloud stayed in one place
for one day, sometimes for a month, sometimes a year.

However long the Cloud stayed above the Tent
the Israelites remained in camp.

In this way they pitched camp and broke camp
at the Lord's command

Reflection & Prayer:
The Cloud in Christian tradition is understood to be God the Holy Spirit, so we can pray:
Dear Holy Spirit, please lead me and guide me
just as you guided the Israelites through the desert

Reading: Psalms 114-115

When Israel came out of Egypt,
Jacob's descendents from an alien people,

Judah became the Lord's temple,
Israel became his kingdom.

Descendents of Israel, trust in the Lord.
He is our help and our shield.

To you may the Lord grant increase,
to you and all your children.

May you be blessed by the Lord,
the maker of heaven and earth.

Reflection:
The writers of the psalms often combined two themes, as in these psalms:
God's goodness to Israel
+ make sure future generations know about that goodness

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for all your goodness.
Please help us pass on to future generations the knowledge of your goodness

Reading:  1 Timothy 1

From Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus, to Timothy, true child of mine in the faith. I  wish you grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ

Please stay at Ephesus and insist that no one teaches misleading doctrines or empty speculation about the Law of God

As a penal code, the aim of the Law is to make provision not for good people but for offenders: for murderers, for people who are immoral with women or with boys or with men, for liars and for perjurers
 - and for everything else that is contrary to sound teaching

Reflection:
In another letter, Paul says how some of his Christians used to be law offenders.
Paul himself had been an offender, an accomplice in the murder of Stephen.

Prayer: Jesus, please help law offenders not to offend again,
and to make up for what they have done

Reading:  Luke 18

Jesus told his disciples a story about the need to pray continually and never lose heart:

There was a judge who had neither fear of God nor respect for people. In the same town there was a widow who kept asking the judge for justice against someone who had wronged her

For a long time the judge refused to help her, but at last he said to himself "I must give this widow her rights or she will pester me to death"

Even more so God will  see that justice is done for those who cry out to him for help day and night, even if he delays to help them

Reflection:
Interesting: Jesus himself only once (? - Lazarus ..."four days") delayed to help anyone who asked for help/healing.

Prayer:
Jesus, please give me more perseverance for prayer
