  Reading:  Numbers 18

God's words to Aaron:
"You and your sons will be priests.
You will lead the liturgy and carry out the duties of your priesthood.

You will have no portion of the land as your own.
I myself will be your portion.

When your sons receive the people's tithes,
they must give you for a special offering
a tithe of the tithes."

Reflection:
Having priests is God's idea - Old Testament and New Testament

Prayer: Dear God, please help priests to be good and not greedy

Reading: Psalm 123

To you have I lifted up my eyes,
you who dwell in the heavens.

My eyes, like the eyes of slaves
on the hand of their lords.

Like the eyes of a servant on the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes are on the Lord our God till he show us mercy.

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy.
We are filled with contempt.

Indeed all too full is our soul with the scorn of the rich,
with the proud man's disdain.

Reflection:
"We are filled with contempt" ....contempt often goes with criticism.
See Criticism and Contempt

Prayer: Lord, please help me avoid criticism and contempt of others

Reading:  1 Timothy 5

Do not speak harshly to a man older than yourself, but advise him as you would your own father. Treat younger men as brothers.

Treat older women as you would your mother. Treat younger women with propriety, as if they were your sisters

Be considerate to widows. If a widow wishes to be enrolled as a church worker, she must be at least 60 years old, the wife of one husband

As regards young widows, it's best if they re-marry

Reflection:
How many times have we heard someone has left the church because of a leader's harsh words?

Prayer: Jesus, please help church workers to be kind and caring

Reading:  Luke 19

When Jesus came near to Jerusalem, he sent two disciples to a nearby village to get a donkey colt which no one had ever ridden

Jesus sat on the colt and began the descent from the Mount of Olives down the hill to Jerusalem

The disciples  spread their clothes on the road,
and joyfully praised God for all the miracles they had seen. They cried out
"Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the Lord!"

Some religious leaders told Jesus to stop the disciples from calling out. Jesus replied "If these keep silence, the stones will cry out"

Reflection:

c.f. this recent reflection re pressure on people not to express their praise of the Lord!

Prayer: Jesus, you who came in the name of the Lord, we praise and love you
