  Reading:  Numbers 20

The Israelites arrived at Kadesh in the desert of Zin.
They had no water, and complained bitterly to Moses and Aaron.

Moses and Aaron pleaded with God for help.
God told Moses to hit a rock with a branch
and in this way order the rock to give water.

Water did in fact flow when Moses hit the rock,
but through lack of faith Moses hit it twice.

So God said to Moses and Aaron:
"Because you did not fully trust me,
therefore you will not lead the people
to the promised land".

When the Israelites moved on from Kadesh,
they asked the Edomites for permission to go through their land.
But the Edomites refused this request.

Later,  on Mount Hor, Aaron died
and was succeeded as High Priest by his son Eleazar

Reflection:
Moses' lack of faith - big punishment (couldn't enter Promised Land).
Peter's lack of faith walking on water - just a gentle comment from Jesus ("why did you lack faith?")....not "bad luck, enjoy swimming"!

Prayer:
Dear God, please increase our trust in you

Reading: Psalm 125

Those who put their trust in the Lord
are like Mount Zion, that cannot be shaken.

Jerusalem, the mountains surround her,
so the Lord surrounds his people, now and forever.

Reflection:
In learning to swim, the more a child trusts its teacher, the more progress it will make. For all sports, progress is related to the relationship of trust between coach and sportsperson.
Trust is basic for any relationship: between spouses, between parents and children, between friends.

Prayer: Lord,  please increase my trust in you....and help me be more aware of your protecting presence

Reading:  1 Timothy 6

Some people, because of ignorance and pride, have a craze for questioning and arguing about everything

Such a craze breeds jealousy and mistrust and unending disputes

People who have a craving to be wealthy are a prey to temptation.
They get trapped into all sorts of foolish and dangerous schemes which ruin their lives

The love of money is the root of all evils. It can cause people to leave the faith

Reflection:
Love of money doesn't make sense (cents)!

Prayer: Jesus, help me be content with a simple lifestyle

Reading:  Luke 20

After some  leaders had asked him some trick questions,
Jesus said to his disciples

"Beware of the religious leaders who like to walk about in special clothes and love to be greeted obsequiously in the market places

They like the front seats in prayer halls and the places of honor at banquets. They like making a show of lengthy prayers.

But at the same time they steal the property of widows.  They will receive a severe sentence from God at the end of their lives

Reflection:
Pope Francis is constantly repeating the above message of Jesus

Prayer: Jesus, please help religious leaders be good people
