  Reading:  Numbers 23-24

When Balaam came to the king of Moab,
the king again tried to get Balaam to curse the Israelites.

But Balaam followed God's words and said:
"How can I curse people that God does not curse?

These people are specially  blessed by God.
How beautiful are your tents, O Jacob.
How lovely are your dwellings, O Israel.

From you will come a mighty one
who will reign over countless peoples.
A star from Jacob will be leader".

Reflection:
Let's try never to wish harm on anyone anywhere, but to wish a blessing, even on people who have been unkind to us or people who have done wrong

Prayer:  Dear God, please bless the Jewish people with peace and love

Reading: Psalm 128

O blessed are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways.

By the labor of your hands you shall eat.
You will be happy and prosper:

your wife like a fruitful vine in the heart of your house;
your children like shoots of the olive, around your table.

Indeed thus shall be blessed
the people who love and honor the Lord.

May the Lord bless you from Zion all the days of your life.
May you see your children's children in a happy Jerusalem!

On Israel, peace!

Reflection:
Whenever I officiate at a wedding, or whenever I send good wishes to people being married,
I use the beautiful blessing words of this psalm:
May you see your children's children!

Prayer: Dear Lord, may all married people  live to see their children's children

Reading:  2 Timothy 1

From Paul, appointed by God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, to Timothy, dear child of mine in the faith, wishing you grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord

I always remember your sincere faith. It came first to live in your grandmother Lois, then in your mother Eunice, and now in yourself

Reflection:
Many of us have the same experience as Timothy: our faith comes from our mother and her mother. Thank goodness for mothers of faith!

Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for parents who pass on the faith to their children

Reading:  Luke 22

On the evening of the Passover feast, Jesus and his apostles ate the Passover Lamb in a large upper room furnished with couches

While they were having the meal, Jesus took some bread, and when he had given thanks, broke it and gave it to his apostles saying
"This is my body. Do this in memory of me"

Then he took a cup of wine and said "This cup is the new covenant
in my blood which will be poured out for you"

Reflection:
Jesus did not say "this is a symbol of my body" or "this looks like my body" but "this is my body"

Prayer: Jesus, please help me understand how your Body and Blood
are present in a Communion service
