O Holy Spirit, may these passages give us hope, wisdom, compassion,

  Reading:  Numbers 30-33

The Israelites waged war against the Midianites 
and claimed their land and  the land of Canaan.

To the sons of Gad, Reuben and Manasseh
were given the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites
and the kingdom of Og, king of Bashan.

The land of Canaan was divided  by lot among the Israelite clans

Reflection:
From the beginning of world history to now, people have been "claiming land".  May such claiming be done peacefully

Prayer:  Dear God, please help the peoplesf Africa, East Asia and the Middle East settle their land/sea claims peacefully

Reading: Psalm 135

Praise the name of the Lord,
praise him, servants of the Lord.

Praise the Lord for he is good.
Sing a psalm to his name for he is loving.

I know the Lord is great. He does whatever he wills
in heaven, on earth, in the seas.

Pagan idols are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.

They have mouths but they cannot speak.
They have eyes but they cannot see.

Sons of Israel, do not trust in useless idols.
Sons of Aaron, trust only in our Creator and Lord.

Reflection:
We should love our parents......and we should love our Creator.
Not to love our parents....a very sad situation.
Not to love God....the saddest of all situations

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help people who worship idols to know and love you

Reading:  2 Timothy 3

For sure, some people will be self-centered and greedy; disobedient and ungrateful to parents; heartless, difficult to get along with; slanderers, profligates and enemies of everything that is good

They will keep up the outward appearance of religion,
but will have rejected its inner power 

Have nothing to do with people like that

Reflection: 
May our religion not be just "externals", but a real experience of the power of love in our lives

Prayer: Jesus, may my faith be real, not just something external

Reading:  Luke 22

The men who arrested Jesus took him to the home of the main religious leader. Peter followed at a distance

As Peter sat by a fire in the courtyard, a servant-girl said "This man was with Jesus".  Peter replied "Woman I do not know him"

A little while later, another person said "You are one of them". Peter replied "I am not"

About an hour later, a man said "He was certainly with them. He is from Galilee". Peter replied "I do not know what you are talking about"

While he was still speaking, a rooster crowed, and the Lord looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered what the Lord had said, "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times"

Peter went outside and cried bitterly

Reflection: 
Denial when confronted with something we have done wrong. 
We've all deserved to hear roosters crowing!

Prayer: Jesus, please give me the honesty and humility to admit my mistakes
