  Reading:  Numbers 34-35

God gave the land of Canaan to the Israelites
and Moses allocated a section of the land to the eleven tribes.

The tribe of Levi  received some towns and pasture land from each of the eleven tribes.

Cities of refuge were established, where people could find safety
if they had accidentally caused someone's death
and the dead person's relatives wanted to take revenge.

In cases of homicide, more than one witness was required to convict someone of murder.

A final law: the inheritance of each tribe was not to be transferred to another tribe

Reflection:
The Israelites occupied Canaan, not all at once, but bit by bit. Not immediately, but over a long period of time. Success usually comes by the same route: bit by bit, over a long time

Prayer:  Dear God, please give me the perseverance to work towards long-term goals

Reading: Psalm 136

O give thanks to the Lord for he is good,
for
his great love is without end.

It was his wisdom which made the skies,
for
his great love is without end.

It was he who made the sun, moon and stars,
for
his great love is without end.

It was he who rescued and protected his people Israel,
for
his great love is without end.

He gives food to all living things,
for
his great love is without end.

To the God of heaven give thanks,
for
his great love is without end.

Reflection:
People who have near death experiences speak about coming into the presence of an overpowering source of love that totally blows their minds when they realise how much they are loved

Prayer: We praise you, Lord, for your great love is without end

Reading:  2 Timothy 3

Anyone who tries to live a sincere Christian life will be persecuted

Stay faithful to what you have been taught and know to be true.
Remember who your teachers were, and how, ever since you were a child, you have known the Scriptures

From the Scriptures you can learn the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus

All Scripture is inspired by God and can be used for teaching, for refuting error, for guiding people's lives and teaching them to be holy

Reflection:
From childhood till our last days, the Bible gives us guidance, courage, hope and peace. If only we could be as interested in the Bible as we are in Facebook ....how much better our lives, our world would be

Prayer:
Jesus, please give all Christians a passion for the Scriptures

Reading:  Luke 22

The men who were guarding Jesus mocked him and beat him

They blindfolded him. "Since you are a prophet", they said, "tell us who hit you just then"

And they continued heaping insults on him

Reflection:
Making fun of people is not a laughing matter

Prayer: Jesus, please stop me from making offensive fun of other people
