  Reading:  Deuteronomy 5

Moses reminded the people of the Ten Commandments:

1: I am the Lord your God. Do not worship anyone or anything else.
2: Use my name with respect. Do not insult my name.
3: Make the Sabbath a holy day each week.
4: Honor your father and your mother.
 5: Do not kill.
 6: Do not commit adultery.
 7: Do not steal.
8: Do not tell lies about other people.
9: Do not lust after someone else's wife.
10: Do not desire what belongs to someone else.

Reflection:
YouTube: Sr Janet Mead - The Ten Commandments

Prayer:  Dear God, please help us
to put these commandments into practice

Reading: Psalm 139

O Lord, you search me and you know me.
You know my resting and my rising.

You know exactly what's going on in my life,
all my ways are an open book to you.

Before ever a word is on my tongue,
You know, O Lord, what I'm going to say.

Your knowledge is beyond my understanding,
too high, beyond my reach.

It was you who created my being,
knit me together in my mother's womb.

I thank you for the wonder of my life,
for the wonders of all your creation.

Reflection:
If we have free will, how come God knows today what I'm going to do tomorrow?
Maybe God is like someone on top of a very high mountain...who can see a group of people hiking way down below....and can see the place where they will be in a few hours time - even though the hikers can't yet see that place

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the gift of life.  Please help me live life as well as I can

Reading:  Titus 1

From Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to Titus, true child of mine in the faith we share, wishing you grace and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Saviour

The reason I left you behind in Crete was for you to appoint elders in every town: each of them a man of irreproachable character, married only once, not arrogant or hot-tempered, not a heavy drinker, not out to make money

A man who is hospitable and a friend of all that is good; sensible, devout, with a firm grasp of the Good News, a good teacher, able to refute people who argue against sound doctrine

Reflection:
Rather than close down churches which don't have a priest, may the Catholic Church soon return to the ancient practice of appointing mature elders in every parish

Prayer:
Jesus, please help all pastors be good "elders"

Reading:  Luke 23

As Jesus was being led to the place of crucifixion, a man named Simon was coming into Jerusalem from the country.
He was made to carry the cross behind Jesus

Large numbers of people followed him, including women who mourned for him. Jesus said to them "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me. Weep rather for yourselves and for your children. For if this is how innocent people are treated, what will happen to people who are guilty?"

Two criminals were led out with Jesus to be crucified with him

Reflection:
Each time we help someone struggling under their burden in life, we help Jesus himself to carry his cross

Prayer: Jesus, please help me to carry my own cross each day,
and may I also help others to carry their cross
