  Reading:  Deuteronomy 9

Moses continued his speech to the people:

"Listen, Israel, you are soon to cross
the Jordan River,
to dispossess nations greater and stronger than yourself.

Know that the Lord your God will go in front of you.

So often in the past you forgot the Lord.
So often you were rebels and did not obey the Lord.

In future you must rebel no more
."

Reflection:
In our lives we need to cross many Jordans (= difficult situations/meetings).
If we remember God's presence, such crossings can be easier, more peaceful, more successful, more common

Prayer:
Dear Lord, please help me remember your presence each time I have to cross a Jordan

Reading: Psalm  146

My soul, give praise to the Lord.
I will praise the Lord all my days.

Put no trust in princes,
in mortal men in whom there is no help.

Take their breath, they return to clay
and their plans that day come to nothing.

They are happy who are helped by Jacob's God,
whose hope is in the Lord our God,

who alone made heaven and earth,
the seas and all they contain.

It is he who gives bread to the hungry,
the Lord, who sets prisoners free.

It is the Lord who gives sight to the blind,
who raises up those who are bowed down.

It is the Lord who protects the stranger
and upholds the widow and orphan.

It is the Lord who loves the just
but thwarts the path of the wicked.

The Lord will reign for ever,
Zion's God, from age to age.

Reflection: (written before 2013 election of Pope Francis, when hope for such a good pope was not strong)
"Put no trust in princes"....makes me think of the conclave, with all its politics.
For the urgent reform of the Church we turn to the One who made heaven and earth.
Let's keep praying:

Prayer: Holy Spirit, may your blessing be on the conclave....to bring about reform in the Church

Reading:  Titus 3

Tell people to keep their minds occupied in doing good works.
Avoid useless speculations about trivial matters

All believers, including elders, should try to be self-supporting

Grace be with you all

Reflection:
How much time of each day is my mind occupied in doing something good/useful......and how much is occupied in doing things that are not really worthwhile or useful?  Nothing wrong with healthy recreation/relaxation, but not 24/7!

Prayer:  Jesus, please help me give more time to important things and less time to unimportant things

Reading:  Luke 23

Joseph from the town of Arimathaea was a member of the religious leaders' council. He was a good and just man, and had not agreed to the killing of Jesus

Late Friday afternoon, he went to Governor Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. He took it down from the cross, wrapped it in a burial cloth, and put it in a rock tomb that had not yet been used

The women from Galilee who had come to Jerusalem with Jesus went with Joseph to the tomb. Then they left to prepare burial spices and ointments. They planned to put these on Jesus' body after the Saturday Sabbath day of rest

Reflection:
Missing in action: the apostles.
Man-ning the fort: the women

Prayer: Jesus in the tomb, please give eternal life to all the dead
