  Reading:  Deuteronomy 16-18

Moses' teaching:

"Remember the special feasts and days that you must observe.

Appoint judges for the people. Do not pervert the law.

You must be fair, you must not take bribes.

No bribes, no corruption.

Do not practise divination, soothsaying.

No one may be an augur or sorcerer.

Do not use charms, do not consult ghosts or spirits.

Instead, be entirely faithful to the Lord your God
."

Reflection:
Other ancient peoples had their laws and codes of behaviour,
but no other people's law was based on a relationship with the Creator
(as far as I know...if you have any info on this: jdwomi@gmail.com )

Prayer:
Dear Lord, please help people avoid
astrology and consulting fortune tellers

Reading: Psalm 2

Why are the nations revolting against God?
Why won't the nations accept God?

O kings and rulers of the nations, listen to God's voice.
Serve the Lord with love and honor.

Blessed are the nations that love the Lord

Reflection:
Accepting and loving God has a big effect on the life of an individual.
Accepting and loving God has a big effect on the life of a nation

Prayer: Let all the nations love you, Lord. Let all the nations love you

Reading:  Hebrews 3

Focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our religion.
He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just like Moses

Take care not to turn away from the living God.
Keep encouraging one another, so that sin does not cause you to turn away from God

Reflection:
Like today's readings from Deuteronomy and Psalms, above, so also this reading has the same basic theme: focus on God, don't forget God, don't turn away from God

Prayer:
Jesus, help me stay focused on you

Reading:  John 1

From all eternity the Word existed.
The Word was with God the Father.
The Word was God the Son

The Word was the source of life for all creatures

The Word became a man, and lived among us.
We saw his glory, full of grace and truth

Many people did not recognize and did not accept the Word.
But to everyone who did accept him,
he gave power to become children of God

Reflection:
This reading is used in HK for Masses of Lunar New Year, so, very appropriate for LNY today! ....to help us, at the start of another year, to think about the meaning of life

Prayer:  Jesus, please help me understand how you are the Word-made-flesh
