O Holy Spirit, may these passages give us hope, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for our daily life           Chinese text

Bible Blog  Feb 3, 2014   Comments welcome here

  Reading:  Deuteronomy 19-21

Moses' teaching:

"You shall not commit adultery or fornication.

You must avoid all forms of prostitution.

You may demand interest on a loan to a foreigner,
but do not practise usury among yourselves.

Be honest in all your dealings
."

Reflection:
Where marriage (= man and woman) is not honoured and supported, corruption increases and society breaks down

Prayer:  Dear Lord, please help our society value and protect married life

Reading: Psalm 4

At the end of this day I praise you, Lord, for all your love and help.

O people of the world, how long will you close your hearts to God?
How long you will keep on chasing
false goals?

Lord, you have put into my heart a joy that cannot be obtained by big meals and plenty of wine.

I will lie day in peace and sleep comes at once,
for you, Lord, make me dwell in safety and peace

Reflection:
Greed shrinks a personality (reading above). Greed involves closing our hearts to God and to others. Greed is a false goal

Prayer: Lord, please keep my heart open to you and to others....and closed to greed

Reading:  Hebrews 6

May every one of you persevere in your Christian life.
Never give up

Remember how Abraham persevered in following God,
despite so many difficulties

Take a firm grip on the hope that is held out to us by God.
This hope is an anchor for us, a lifeline going right up to heaven

Reflection:
The Letter to the Hebrews was addressed to people who were going through great trials and were tempted to give up their following of Jesus. "Hebrews" is basically a "keep going" letter, good for people of every time and place

Prayer:  Jesus, you are my anchor. You are my lifeline. Please help me "keep going"

Reading:  John 1

John the Baptist told his disciples Andrew and John that Jesus was the Chosen One of God.  Andrew and John then followed Jesus

Andrew took his brother Simon to Jesus. Jesus changed Simon's name to Peter, and Peter followed Jesus

Jesus met  Philip and said to him "Follow me".  Philip called one more man, Nathanael (Bartholomew) and said to him "we have found the one Moses and the prophets wrote about. He is Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth"

Reflection:
John the Baptist told Andrew and John, Andrew told Peter, Philip told Nathanael.....showing us that knowing Jesus is not a secret....it's something to be shared with others

Prayer:  Jesus, please help me introduce more people to know and love you
