O Holy Spirit, may these passages give us hope, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for our daily life           Chinese text

  Reading:  Deuteronomy 26

Moses' teaching:

"When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you,
you must take the first-fruits of your produce
to the priest then in office and say

'Today I declare to the Lord my God
that I have come to the land
the Lord swore to our fathers he would give us
.'

After the priest receives your offering, you must declare:

'My father was a wandering Aramaean.
He went down to Egypt to find refuge there, few in number.

But then he became a nation, great and strong.

The Egyptians ill-treated us, they gave us no peace
and inflicted harsh slavery on us.

But we called on the Lord our God who heard our voice
and saw our misery, toil and oppression.

The Lord our God then brought us out of Egypt
with mighty hand and outstretched arm, with signs and wonders.

He brought us here and gave us this land,
a land where milk and honey flow.

So I now bring the first-fruits of my produce
that you, Lord, have given me'.

You are then to share these gifts with your household
and with the Levite and stranger who live among you
."

Reflection:
Moses is saying "Remember God's goodness ....and show goodness to others"

Prayer:  Dear Lord, help me to show gratitude for all your gifts,
by sharing what I have with those less fortunate than I

Reading: Psalm 5

At the start of this day I pray to you, O Lord, my King and my God.
I offer you my prayer and ask for your help.

Through the greatness of your love, I have access to your friendship.
I bow down in reverence and worship.

Lead me, Lord, in the way you want me to go.

It is you, Lord, who bless good people.
You surround them with favors, as with a shield.

Reflection:
Especially at the start of each day, and at the end of each day, we should remember our Creator.
Just like children should say "Good morning" and "Good night' to their parents.
Gandhi: "Prayer is the key of the morning and the bolt of the evening"

Prayer: Lord, please help more people get into the habit of morning and evening prayer

Reading:  Hebrews 7

Melchizedek was king of Salem and a priest of God. He blessed Abraham.  Abraham gave Melchizedek 10% of all he had

Melchizedek's priesthood  continued down the ages in people dedicated to the service of God. It reached its perfection in the Son of God, the Eternal High Priest

The Son of God, our Lord, did not come from the priestly tribe of Levi. Everyone knows he came from the tribe of Judah

This is because he established a new priesthood, coming not from Levi, but from Melchizedek. This is why the prophecy was made of him "You are a priest of the order of Melchizedek, for ever"

Jesus' priestly power to save us is utterly certain, since he is living for ever to intercede for all who come to God through him

Reflection:
When a Christian priest or pastor baptises someone, it is Jesus who is doing the baptism. The priest is just a representative of The Priest. When a priest or pastor leads the Eucharist, it is Jesus who is the real Leader

Prayer:  Jesus, Eternal High Priest, please help all pastors and priests be more like you every day

Reading:  John 2

Jesus, his mother and his disciples were guests at a wedding at Cana in Galilee

The wine ran out, so Jesus' mother said to him "They have no wine".
Jesus replied "Woman, my time for doing special things has not yet come".
His mother said to the servants "Do whatever he tells you"

There were 6 big containers there, used for holding water. Each could hold about 35 liters. Jesus said to the servants "Fill the containers with water" and they filled them up

Jesus then said "take some out and give it to the man in charge of the banquet".  When the man tasted the water, it had turned to wine

The man called the bridegroom and said "You have kept the best wine until now"

This was the first public miracle done by Jesus

Reflection:
Some people say prayer is useless, "we can't influence God". But Jesus said he can be influenced and wants to be influenced ("ask and you will receive") ... something that Mary knew all about

Prayer:  Jesus,  please give me more faith in prayer, please give me a bit more of Mary's faith
