O Holy Spirit, may these passages give us hope, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for our daily life           Chinese text

  Reading:  Deuteronomy 27-28

"Be silent, Israel, and listen.
Today you have become a people for the Lord your God.

A curse on anyone who breaks the commandments of the Lord.

Blessings on everyone who keeps the commandments of the Lord.

If you obey the voice of the Lord your God
you will be blessed in the town and blessed in the country.

Blessed will be the fruit of your body, the fruit of your soil,
the issue of your livestock.

Blessed will you be coming in, and blessed going out.

But if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God,
you will be accursed in the town and accursed in the country.

Accursed will be the fruit of your body, the fruit of your soil
and the issue of your livestock."

Reflection:
Re "the fruit of your body": If adults try to live a healthy life, there's a high probability that their children will be born healthy. But if adults smoke (especially during pregnancy), use excessive alcohol or drugs etc, there's a high probability that their children will have health issues

Prayer:  Dear God, please help parents-to-be follow a healthy life style

Reading: Psalm 7

Have mercy on me, Lord, I have no strength.
My body is racked with pain. Please heal me, Lord.

I am exhausted with my groaning.
Every night  my pillow is covered  with tears.

Lord, please hear my prayer.

Reflection:
May people on beds of pain be helped by this psalm

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help people who are in distress of mind or body

Reading:  Hebrews 8-9

Jesus' priesthood is part of the new covenant predicted in the Scriptures:

"See, the days are coming - it is the Lord who speaks - when I will establish a new covenant with the House of Israel"

Christ has come as High Priest of all the blessings that were predicted

He has offered not the blood of animals like priests of the old covenant, but his own blood, by which he won our redemption

His blood can purify our inner self from dead actions,
to help us in our life of dedication to the living God

Prayer:  Jesus, by your precious blood, purify my heart and protect me

Reading:  John 2

Just before the Passover Feast, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the Temple he saw people selling cattle and sheep and pigeons, with money changers sitting at their counting tables

Jesus made a whip out of some cord, then drove the sellers out of the Temple, cattle and sheep as well. He scattered the money changers' coins, knocked their tables over, and said to the pigeon sellers "Take all of this out of here and stop turning my Father's house into a market"

Some religious leaders asked him "What sign can you show us to justify what you have done?"

Jesus answered "Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will raise it up".  The leaders replied "It has taken 46 years to build this sanctuary"

But Jesus was speaking of the sanctuary that was his body, and when he rose from the dead, his disciples remembered his words

Reflection:
Sometimes it's ok to get angry .... (hopefully in a controlled way) ...like Jesus cleansing the Temple

Prayer:  Jesus, please don't let churches and prayer centers become centers of commerce
