O Holy Spirit, may these passages give us hope, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for our daily life           Chinese text

  Reading:  Deuteronomy 31

Moses said to the people:

"I am 120 years old and can no longer come and go as I will.
The Lord has told me I will not cross the Jordan."

Moses then said to Joshua in the presence of all the people:

"Be strong, stand firm. you are going with this people
into the land promised by the Lord.

The Lord himself will lead you; he will be with you;
he will not fail you or desert you.

Have no fear; do not be disheartened by anything."

Reflection:
There's a strong link between awareness of God's presence  ... and lack of fear.
c.f. Peter walking on the water: when he focussed on Jesus, he was ok. But when he focussed on the waves .....oops!

Prayer:  Dear Lord, please help me remember your presence more often

Reading: Psalms 9-13

I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart.
You have so often rescued me from trouble. Thank you!

You are the best helper for people in trouble.
Please keep on helping me when troubles come.

Please stop bad people from hurting others.
Please let peoples in all countries know they must avoid evil and live a life of justice.

Reflection:
When we get to Heaven and get to see a replay of our lives, we'll be staggered to see how often God helped us ......just as we're not aware now of how much our parents did for us in our first few years of life

Prayer: Dear Lord,  thank you for so often helping me

Reading:  Hebrews 11

Only faith can keep us going. Only faith kept Abraham going.
Only faith gave perseverance to famous people in the Scriptures

So many of them were weak people who were given strength by God, to be brave when life became difficult

With so many witnesses in a great cloud all around us, we too should keep running in the race we have started. We should get rid of  everything that slows us down

Keep focusing on Jesus. He is running beside us. His example going to the cross gives us courage

Try to live at peace with everyone. Don't let any seed of bitterness begin to grown and make trouble. This can poison a whole community

Reflection: 
Same point as in reading from Deuteronomy, above: focus on Jesus.
More awareness of his presence will give us energy to "keep going"
 
Prayer:  Jesus, help me remember your presence more often, focus on you more often

Reading:  John 3

Some of John the Baptist's disciples told John that many of his disciples were leaving him and following Jesus

John replied "I am not the Christ. I am the one who was sent to prepare his way. The bride is only for the bridegroom. But the bridegroom's friend is happy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. This is the happiness  I now feel

He must become more and more important.
I must become less and less important

Anyone who believes in the Son has eternal life. But anyone who refuses to believe in the Son will not have eternal life"

Reflection:
Our aim: to replace our self-consciousness, self-awareness  with awareness of Jesus' presence. This has a powerful effect on our lives and helps us avoid unhealthy introspection 

Prayer:  Jesus, please help me be more aware of you ... and so let you become more important in my life
