Reading:  Joshua 3

Instructed by the Lord,
Joshua told the people to go to the bank of the Jordan River
.

He told the priests carrying the Sacred Chest
to stand in the river on the edge of the water.

As soon as the feet of the priests touched the water,
the river stopped flowing.

The people then went across the dry river bed towards Jericho.

Prayer:
Dear God, please help me to cross rivers of difficulty, doubt, conflict etc

Reading: Psalms 20-21

May the Lord protect and help you,
may he give you your heart's desire
and fulfil every one of your plans.

Some trust in chariots or horses,
but we trust in the Lord.

Reflection:

Prayer: Lord, please protect and help Pope Francis.  Please bless all his plans

Reading:  James 1

Don't go thinking you're "religious" while your tongue is out of control. That's the wrong idea of religion

Genuine religion, in the eyes of God our Father is this: coming to the help of orphans and widows, and staying clear of bad values

Reflection:
Two targets to give attention to: tongue-control and helping the poor

Prayer:  Jesus, help me control my tongue
...and help me do more to help the poor

Reading:  John 5

Jesus said to the religious leaders "My Father goes on working, and so do I.
Whoever refuses honor to the Son, refuses honor to the Father who sent him

The Father judges no one. He has entrusted all judgement to the Son

A time will come  when the dead will leave their graves at the sound of the Son's voice. Those who did good, will rise again to life. Those who did evil, will face condemnation".

Reflection:
Some day we are all going to be in court .... and the judge will be Jesus.
If we have tried to be good people in this world, we have nothing to fear.
In fact, we can look forward to our "day in court"!

Prayer:
Jesus, some day you are going to be my judge. On that day may I hear you say "I was hungry, and you gave me food etc"  (Matthew 25. 31 - 46)
