Reading:  Judges 1

After the death of Joshua,
the Israelites continued their campaign
to occupy all parts of the land of Canaan.

But as time went on,
the Israelites began to forget the Lord their God.

As a result, things went wrong for the Israelites.

To help them, the Lord appointed judges to lead them.
For a while the people followed the judges.

But as soon as a judge died,
the people again lapsed into idolatry

Reflection:
Backsliding was around long before Christianity!

Prayer:
Dear God, please don't let me forget you.
Please help me pray to you and love you every day.

Reading: Psalms 35-37

O Lord, please save me from people who slander me,
you who rescue the weak from the strong,

you whose love is so precious,
you in whose light we see light.

We believe that if we find our delight in you,
you will grant our heart's desire.

And so we commit our lives to you,
confident you will help us in time of trouble.

Reflection:
May my delight in God be as strong as my delight in using the internet!

Prayer: Lord, please increase my delight in you ...by knowing you and loving you more

Reading:  One Peter 1

Delete rubbish from your minds. Control your thinking.
Trust more in Jesus. Live the way he wants you to live,
not like the way you used to live before you learnt the truth.
Be good and holy

Let your love for each other be real and from the heart

You are born again by the everlasting word of the living God

Never be spiteful, or deceitful, or hypocritical
or envious and critical of each other

Reflection:
More than one author has said that the best way to control our thinking is to remember Jesus' presence - has a powerful effect on our thoughts, speech and actions

Prayer:  Jesus, please help me remember your presence ....and don't let me think or say or do anything that you would not do

Reading:  John 7

The religious leaders sent the Temple police to arrest Jesus

When the police returned to the leaders without Jesus,
the leaders asked "Why didn't you arrest him?"

The police replied
"There has never been anyone who has spoken like him"

Reflection:
As a prison chaplain I can hear the inmates cheering in their hearts for Jesus who avoided arrest!

Prayer:
Jesus, in the history of the world, there has never been anyone who has spoken about goodness and truth like you
