O Holy Spirit, may these passages give us hope, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for our daily life           Chinese text

Reading:  Judges 4

After Ehud died, the Israelites again began to stray from the Lord
and therefore again lost their freedom and peace.

The Lord then used Deborah, who was a judge and prophetess
to rescue the people.

Deborah instructed Barak son of Abinoam
to go and do battle with Sisera, the people's oppressor.

Barak said he would go only if Deborah went with him.
She agreed but then said that his hesitation
would cause the Lord to give battle victory to a woman, not Barak.

When  Barak's forces routed those of Sisera,
Sisera fled and took refuge in the tent of Jael, wife of Heber.

As Sisera slept from exhaustion,
Jael drove a tent peg into his head and he died.

So once again the Lord had rescued the Israelites.

Reflection:
A woman shows courage while man/men "hesitate".
Same thing happened at time of Jesus' resurrection.
And see this most interesting article about Deborah by a Jewish writer

Prayer:
Dear God, please give me more courage in the battle of life,
(and please protect and bless
Barack Obama!)

Reading: Psalm 40

I waited, I waited for the Lord and he stooped down to me.
He heard my cry.

He saved me from distress.
He put
fresh hope into my heart.

How many, O Lord my God, are the times you have helped me.
They are too many for me to describe.

My God, in the depth of my heart I delight in your law.
You do not want external offerings.
You want my heart.

Reflection:
Hope cannot be bought in a supermarket or downloaded from the internet.
Hope can be downloaded only from Heaven, from God.
Our Bible reading is one of the main ways of downloading
fresh hope each day

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the hope that daily Bible reading gives my heart

Reading:  One Peter 2

Keep yourselves free from selfish passions that attack the soul.
Behave honorably among non-Christians, even if they treat you badly

For the sake of the Lord, accept the authority of every social institution. God wants you to be good citizens

Reflection:
Genuine Christians should be really good citizens who care about their country, keep the law, pay taxes, help build community etc

Prayer:  Jesus, bless all government officials in our country.
Give them good health, courage and wisdom

Reading:  John 8

Jesus said to the people "I am the light of the world. Those who follow me will not walk in the dark. They will have the light of life

If you take my words to heart, you will be my disciples.
You will learn the truth, and
the truth will set you free"

Reflection:
When a prison inmate asks me "should I plead guilty or innocent?" I always reply:
"If you are innocent, say innocent. If you are guilty, say guilty. And
the truth will set you free"

Prayer:
Jesus, please help me be a more truthful person, and may the truth set me free from negative influences in my life
