Reading:  Ruth 3-4

Naomi told Ruth to go to the threshing shed of Boaz
and to sleep there at the feet of Boaz,
this action symbolizing her wish to marry Boaz.

When Boaz discovered Ruth there during the night,
he praised Ruth for wanting to continue Elimelech's family.

The next day, Boaz went to the gate of Bethlehem
and met the only man who preceded him
in the legal right to marry Ruth.

The man agreed to let Boaz marry Ruth
and so Boaz took Ruth as his wife.

Boaz and Ruth had a son, Obed.
Obed was the father of Jesse whose son was King David.

Reflection:
No doubt this beautiful story was preserved because it was about King David's great grandparents. A story started by the loyalty of Ruth and finished by the kindness of Boaz. A story about Jesus' ancestors!

Prayer:  Dear God, please bless all grandparents,
as you blessed David's great grandparents Ruth and Boaz

Reading:  Psalms 73-77

Sometimes when I see how bad people prosper,
I wonder what's the use in trying to be good?

But then I realize that everyone someday has to pay the bill
for all the evil they have bought in the world.

Sometimes when I see our world  and religion in ruins,
I wonder why has God abandoned us?

Then I remember that God has promised to break the power
of the wicked. He has promised to give strength to good people.

So may all people honor the Lord our God and judge.
May the Lord give us his loving help.

Reflection:
All evil regimes eventually fall, because within them they have the seeds of destruction in the form of corruption, lies, hatred, pride etc

Prayer:
Lord, help us to be good people, especially in the face of evil

Reading:  One John 2

We can be sure we know God
only by keeping his commandments

Anyone who says "I know him"
and does not keep his commandments,
is a liar, refusing to admit the truth

We can be sure we are in God
only if we are living the same kind of life as Christ lived

Reflection:
The more we try to live like Jesus, the more we try to follow his values, the more authentic our lives will be

Prayer:  Jesus, please help me live like you, live for you

Reading:  John 13

Jesus became visibly upset and said to his disciples at the meal
"One of you is going to betray me. It is the one to whom I give a piece of bread  that I have dipped in the dish"

He dipped the piece of bread and gave it to Judas Iscariot. Immediately, Satan entered Judas

Jesus said to Judas "What you are going to do, do quickly".
Judas left the meal. Night had fallen

Reflection:
People say Jesus' humanity is emphasised in Mark's Gospel, while John's Gospel emphasizes the "from Heaven" side of Jesus' life. But there are many references to Jesus' humanity in John, such as in this passage ("became visibly upset") and in Chapter 11 (when he cried at the tomb of Lazarus)

Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for sharing our troubled life. You know only too well what we go through!
