Reading:  One Samuel 2

Hannah praised God for giving her a child:
"My heart rejoices in the Lord.
The Lord, our fortress, is holy.

Don't speak proudly,
for the Lord knows what's in our hearts.

The Lord breaks the power of the strong.
He gives strength and victory to the weak.
He blesses the barren woman.

The Lord raises the poor from the dust,
and gives them a seat of honor with princes.

The Lord guards the steps of good people,
but scatters  bad people in their pride."

The Lord blessed Hannah
and she gave birth to three more sons and two daughters.

Her son Samuel grew up in the temple.
The temple priest at that time was Eli.

But Eli's sons were bad men.
They stole the people's offerings to the Lord.

Reflection:
Mary's "Magnificat" (Luke 1.46) is an updated version of Hannah's prayer.
Hannah is a forerunner of Mary.
Samuel is a forerunner of Jesus

Prayer:  Dear God, please bless good people like Hannah,
and please help bad people like Eli's sons to stop being bad

Reading:  Psalms 79-80

O God, the nations have invaded your sacred land,
they have profaned your holy temple.
They have made Jerusalem a heap of ruins.

We have become the taunt of our neighbours,
the mockery and scorn of those who surround us.

How long, O Lord, will all this last?
How long will this sorrow keep going?

Do not hold the guilt of our ancestors against us.
If their guilt is somehow influencing our situation now
please give peace and healing to everyone and everything
in our  history.

Let the groans of the prisoners come before you.
Let your strong arm reprieve those condemned to die.

O Lord, our God, help us and save us.
Let your face shine on us and we shall be saved.

Reflection:
Books like Healing the Family Tree and Healing Life's Hurts
show how our present situation can be caused by something or someone in our family history

Prayer:
Lord, please heal any problems in my family tree

Reading:  One John 3

Think of the love that the Father has lavished on us
by letting us be called God's children

And God's love has even more in store for us in the future:
we shall be like him because we shall see him as he really is

This is why we must try to live good lives.
We must try to be as good as Christ

Reflection:
We are like caterpillars.....there's a higher form of life around the corner......we are on the way to becoming....butterflies. See the second half of this article

Prayer: Jesus, please help me be more like you

Reading:  John 13-14

At the meal, Peter said to Jesus "I will lay down my life for you".
Jesus replied "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times

To all of you I say, there are many rooms in my Father's house.
I am going now to prepare a place for you

I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.
No one comes to the Father except through me"

Reflection:
"I am going to prepare a place for you".
Near Death Experience people who have had a glimpse of that place say it is a place of indescribable joy and peace. Bring it on!

Prayer: Jesus, you are the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Please increase our longing for life "on the other side of the veil"
