O Holy Spirit, may these passages give us hope, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for our daily life           Chinese text

Reading:  One Samuel 11

The people of Jabesh-gilead told Saul
that the Ammonites were threatening them.

The spirit of the Lord stirred up Saul
and he led the Israelites to a great victory over the Ammonites.

Samuel and all the people then went to Gilgal
where Saul was again proclaimed king.

Reflection:
Saul, David, Daniel, Samson - and many others in the Old Testament - were "stirred" to action by God's spirit. In these days after Pentecost, we pray to be likewise "stirred"!

Prayer: Dear Lord, may your Spirit stir us up to do good things

Reading:  Psalm 89

I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
Of this I am sure, that your love lasts for ever.

The heavens proclaim your wonders, O Lord.
The heavens are yours, the world is yours.

Blessed the people who find joy in you,
who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face.

Reflection:
As we admire the beauty of the universe,
we cannot but help thinking of the Creator,
just like a beautiful book/film/song makes us think of the author/actor/writer

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for our beautiful universe

Reading:  Revelation 1

I, John, share your sufferings. I was on the island of Patmos, imprisoned for having preached about Jesus

One Sunday the Spirit possessed me. I heard a voice shouting
"Write down all you see, and send it to the seven churches of
Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea"

I turned to see who had spoken to me, and I saw Jesus,
full of glory. His face was like the sun shining with all its force

He said to me "Do not be afraid. It is I, the First and the Last. I am the Living One"

Reflection:
Patmos was a prison. Not the first time John had been in prison for having preached about Jesus. Makes us remember the many thousands of Christians who are right now in prison for having preached about Jesus (especially in China)

Prayer:
Jesus, Living One, please help people who are in prison for preaching about you.

Reading:  Matthew 3

About 30 years after Jesus was born,
a man began preaching repentance,
and baptizing people in the river Jordan.

This man was John the Baptist.
His message was
"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand".

John fulfilled the prophecy:
"A voice cries in the wilderness: prepare a way for the Lord".

John said "I baptize you with water,
but one is coming who  will baptize you with the Holy Spirit".

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
After Jesus was baptized, the heavens opened,
and Jesus saw the Spirit of God coming down on him like a dove.

And a voice from heaven said
"This is my Son, the Beloved.
My favor rests on him".

Reflection:
In these days after Pentecost, let's ask for a fresh anointing/blessing by the Holy Spirit

Prayer:
Spirit of Jesus, fall afresh on us!
