Reading:  One Samuel 13-15

Not long after he became king, Saul began doing things
that caused Samuel to stop supporting him.

Samuel clearly told Saul what the Lord wanted Saul to do,
but Saul insisted on doing things his own way.

Saul seemed more concerned about his own popularity
than about being obedient to the Lord.

This displeased the Lord, and he rejected Saul.

Reflection:
King David also had "issues", but his heart stayed focused on the Lord.
Saul's problem was that his heart was focused on himself rather than the Lord

Prayer: Dear God, please help me to keep my heart focused on you, in good times and in bad, in happy times and in sad

Reading:  Psalm 91

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
says to the Lord "you are my refuge in whom I trust".

The Lord will hide you and protect you.
Under his wings you will find refuge.

You will not fear any night time terror,
nor any attack during the day.

Upon you no evil shall fall,
no plague approach where you dwell.

For you has he commanded his angels
to keep you safe in all your ways.

Reflection:
A beautiful psalm to pray before night time sleep.
Recommended for people who experience anxiety/panic attacks

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for your protection day and night

Reading:  Revelation 2

He gave me this message for the church in Smyrna:

"I know the trials you have been through, and how poor you are, and the slanderous attacks that have been made on you.

Do not be afraid of suffering, afraid of prison.
Even if you have to die, keep faithful,
and I will give you the prize of eternal life"

Reflection:
The thought of eternal life on the other side of the veil gives us courage for life on this side of the veil

Prayer:
Jesus, help me stay faithful when I experience trials and suffering

Reading:  Matthew 4

After his time in the desert,
Jesus began preaching the same message as John the Baptist:
"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand".

Jesus called four fishermen to become "fishers of men":
Peter and his brother Andrew, James and his brother John.
They left their boats and went with Jesus.

Jesus went all round the area of Galilee,
preaching in local prayer halls
and healing all kinds of sick people

News spread about the sick being healed,
and soon even  people from distant places came to Jesus to be healed.

Reflection:
The sick being healed by prayer is a sign of God's presence. Would that in places of violence there could be more healing of the sick, to take the steam out of angry hearts

Prayer:
Jesus, please let there be frequent healing of the sick in places like Nigeria, Central African Republic etc ....so that violent people might be converted to put down the sword
