Reading:  One Samuel 18

After one of David's victories against the Philistines,
the Israelite women came to meet David and Saul singing
"Saul has killed thousands, David tens of thousands."

From that day Saul became jealous of David

Saul realized that the Lord was with David
and that the people loved David.

Saul was filled with jealousy of David
and wanted to kill him.

Saul more and more treated David like an enemy.

Reflection:
Wikipedia's Jealousy article explains that since William Shakespeare's use of terms like "green-eyed monster", the color green has been associated with jealousy and envy, from which the expression "green with envy" is derived.

Prayer:  Dear God, please don't let me jealous of other people

Reading:  Psalm 94

O Lord,  Judge of the earth,
how long will the wicked crush the poor?

The wicked say "God does not hear".
But can he who made the ear, not hear?

Blessed are those whom the Lord teaches.
The Lord gives them peace in troubled times.

When cares increase in my heart,
God's consolation calms my soul.

Reflection:
Better than tablets and medicine (...not saying ignore doctor....should follow doctor's advice) is consolation from God ... through prayer, meditation, worship etc. Medicine often treats only the symptoms. God can treat the cause

Prayer: Lord, when cares and troubles increase, please  help us to trust in you.

Reading:  Revelation 3

He gave me this message for the church in Sardis:

"I know all about you. You are a shining red apple on the outside,
but inside you are rotten

Wake up, revive your faith and love.
Remember the eagerness you showed
when you first heard the Good News

Listen to this message and repent"

Reflection:
The original Greek of this passage doesn't use the apple image.
In fact, as far as I know, there's no mention of an apple in the New Testament.
Please tell me if there is one:   jdwomi@gmail.com

Prayer:
Jesus, don't ever let me become a rotten apple

Reading:  Matthew 5

Jesus said to the crowds:

I have not come to abolish the Jewish religion.
I have come to raise it to a higher level of goodness.

Your goodness must not just be something superficial.
Your goodness must be something from the heart.

You must avoid anger and insult, just like you avoid murder.
If you have offended someone, say "Sorry".

You must avoid lustful looks and thoughts.
Looking at someone lustfully is immorality of the heart.

Love and pray for people who are unkind to you.
This is the way to practise the highest level of goodness.

Reflection:
We are meant to be apples that not only look good, but taste good too!

Prayer:
Jesus, please give me goodness of heart
