Reading:  One Samuel 25-31

Samuel died and was buried in his home town of Ramah.
Saul continued to try to capture David.

David and his band of 600 soldiers
spent more than a year in Philistine territory.

They stayed with Achish, king of Gath.
They fought against the enemies of Achish.

Achish sent David away when the Philistines made war on Israel.
Saul and his son Jonathan died in this war.

Reflection:
The story of Saul is a sad one. His whole focus was on capturing and killing David.
Another Saul had a similar focus: capturing and killing Christians. Such people only change their focus when they are literally or figuratively knocked off their high horse.

Prayer:
Dear God, please protect and help all refugees

Reading:  Psalm 97

The Lord is king, let earth rejoice,
the many coastlands be glad.

Cloud and darkness are his robes.
His throne is justice and goodness.

The skies proclaim his goodness.
All peoples see his glory.

Let those who serve idols be ashamed.
Let all creation worship  the Creator.

Light shines forth for good people
and joy for the upright of heart.

Rejoice in the Lord, all good people.
Give glory to his holy name.

Reflection:
YouTube: How Great Thou Art

Prayer: Lord, our God, our Creator, how great Thou art

Reading:  Revelation 4

In my vision I saw a door open in heaven.
The same voice as before said to me
"Come up here. I will show you what is to come in the future"

I saw God in all his glory,
being worshipped by the angels who sang:

"Holy, Holy, Holy
is the Lord God, the Almighty"

And I saw 24 elders around the throne.
They were praising God saying

"You are our Lord and our God.
You are worthy of glory and honor and power
because you are the Creator of the universe"

Reflection:
"A place where people love and praise God" - not a bad definition of "Heaven"!

Prayer: YouTube: "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God, Almighty.
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee"

Reading:  Matthew 6

Jesus said to the crowds
that life is about more than food and clothing.

Pointing to some birds flying around, Jesus said:

Look at the birds. They don't sow or reap,
yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
And you are more precious than the birds.

Pointing to flowers in the field Jesus said:
How beautiful are the flowers.
They are more beautiful than King Solomon's clothing.

If God cares so much about the life of flowers
won't he care even more about human life?

So, don't spend your day worrying about
what you are going to eat and drink and wear.

Put God first in your life, God and a right way of life,
then  God will look after your physical needs.

Don't waste your energy worrying about tomorrow.
Live life one day at a time.

Reflection:
Birds and flowers are reminders of God's love. When we see a bird or flower, may it remind us of our Creator

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for caring for
the birds and flowers....and me!
