Reading:  Two Samuel 7

After David settled into his palace and the land enjoyed peace,
David thought about building a temple for the Lord.

Then through the prophet Nathan the Lord told David:

" I will establish your dynasty for ever.
But it will be your son, not yourself,
who will build a temple for me."

David praised God:

"Who am I, Lord, and what is my House,
that you have helped me so much
and promised me so much?

May my House continue in your presence for ever.
May you bless my House forever."

Reflection:
Once again we can reflect on the fact that although David was no "angel" (adultery, murder...) his focus was on God. And God blessed David

Prayer:
Dear God, please bless everyone in my family tree,
past, present and future

Reading:  Psalm 101

My song is of mercy and justice.
I sing to you, O Lord.

I will try to walk with blameless heart.
I will try to give my attention to what is good, not what is bad.

People who slander others, people of proud looks,
these will not be my friends.

People who are good and do good,
these will be my friends.

Reflection:
The above words give us a definition of "walking with a blameless heart":
- being interested in good things, not bad things
- avoiding slanderers and proud people
- associating with good people who do good

Prayer:  Dear Lord, please help me to "walk with a blameless heart"

Reading:  Revelation 8

I saw how punishment was coming for all evil doers on the earth

I heard voices shouting: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and his Christ. He will reign for ever and ever"

The 24 elders worshipped God saying:

"We give thanks to you, Almighty Lord God.
The time has come for everyone to be judged.
The time has come for good people to be rewarded
and bad people to be punished"

Reflection:
Someday every human person is going to have "a day in court" on the other side of the grave. The Judge? Jesus

Jesus, please help bad people stop being bad

Reading:  Matthew 8

In Jesus' time, it was illegal for anyone to touch a leper,
and it was illegal for lepers  to go near other people.

But one day a leper broke the law.
He came right up to Jesus and said
"If you want to, you can heal me."

Jesus also broke the law.
He stretched out his hand, touched the leper,
and said "Of course I want to heal you. Be healed!"

The man was healed immediately.

Reflection:
Never once did Jesus say "your illness is a cross ... go and carry it".
Never once did Jesus refuse a request for healing

Prayer:
Jesus, I didn't know you were a law-breaker.  I guess this means that sometimes, in special cases,  it's ok to break the law
