Reading:  One Kings 3

The Lord appeared to King Solomon in a dream
and said "Ask me for anything you'd like."

Solomon asked for wisdom: "Give you servant a heart to understand how to discern between good and evil."

God replied: "I now give you a heart full of wisdom,
wisdom greater than anyone else has ever had.

And I also give you what you did not ask for:
riches and glory and long life."

Not long after this, two prostitutes came for judgement:
they lived in the same house and both had given birth to a son,
but one of the babies died during the night.

The mother of the dead baby changed babies
during the same night
and claimed that the living baby was hers.

Solomon  asked for a sword to cut the living baby in two
and give half to each mother.

The lying woman agreed, but the real mother said
"No. Don't kill the baby. Give it to the other woman."

Solomon then knew the real mother was telling the truth
and gave the baby to her.

For wisdom such as this, Solomon's reputation spread far.

Reflection:
Let's often pray for wisdom for our civil and religious leaders

Prayer: Dear Lord, please give our leaders good health, courage and wisdom

Reading:  Psalm 111

I will thank the Lord with all my heart.
Great are the works of the Lord,
to be pondered by all who love him.

His goodness stands firm for ever.
The Lord is compassion and love.

His precepts are for all peoples and all times.
He is to be honored by all nations.

To love and honor the Lord
is the beginning of wisdom.

Reflection:
Wisdom can't be obtained from a supermarket or downloaded from the internet.
It has only one source: God.  Just like genuine sunshine has only one source: the sun

Prayer:  Dear Lord, source of wisdom, please give our troubled world, especially our leaders, more wisdom!

Reading:  Revelation 21

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth.
The first heaven and the first earth
had disappeared now, and there was no longer any sea

I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem,
coming down from God out of heaven,
as beautiful as a bride all dressed for her husband

I heard a voice call from the throne: "You see this city?
Here God lives among people. He will make his home among them. They shall be his people. He will be their God.
His name is God-with-them

He will wipe away all tears from their eyes.
There will be no more death, no more sadness.
The world of the past has gone

Reflection:
Ah ...so now we know the Bride's name: New Jerusalem!

Prayer: Jesus, may the thought of heaven give us courage here on earth

Reading:  Matthew 9

Jesus went to many towns and villages.
In the local prayer halls he taught people
the Good News of God's kingdom.
He healed all sorts of diseases and sicknesses.

He felt sorry for the ordinary people
because they were like sheep without a shepherd
- leaderless, exploited, and feeling hopeless.

He said to his friends:
"So many people don't have good leaders.
Pray to God to send good leaders".

Reflection:
Many times yesterday I prayed for Indonesia to choose a good leader in yesterday's voting ....and also yesterday (on the feast of the Martyrs of China), I prayed for good leaders for China.  Given the mess our world is in, let's daily pray for good leaders

Prayer:  Jesus,  many countries have bad leaders.
Please help every country to have good leaders
