O Holy Spirit, may these passages give us hope, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for our daily life           Chinese text

Reading:  One Kings 6-7

Solomon built the temple of the Lord with finest wood
and many precious materials.

The temple took 7 years to build.

Solomon also built a palace for himself.
This took 13 years to build.

Reflection:
In some places and at some times in history, big churches/cathedrals were a good idea.
But in today's world, simplicity rather than ostentation is to be preferred

Prayer:
Dear God, may all temples and churches in the world
be places of prayer and peace

Reading:  Psalm 113

Praise, O friends of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord.

May the name of the Lord be blessed
both now and for evermore.

From the rising of the sun to its setting
praised be the name of the Lord.

Who is like the Lord our God,
above the heavens his glory.

From the dust he lifts up the lowly,
to put them in the company of royalty.

To the childless wife he gives a home
and gladdens her heart with children.

Reflection:
One of the best things we can do, we should do:
praise God at
sunrise (= some Bible reading and prayer in the morning)
and at
sunset (= some Bible reading and prayer in the evening)

Prayer: Dear God, please help me make a bit of time for Bible reading and prayer in the morning ....and in the evening

Reading:  Revelation 21

I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven. It had God's glory, and glittered like a precious diamond

There was no temple in the city, since the Lord God and the Lamb were themselves the temple

The city did not need sun or  moon for light, since it was lit by the radiant glory of God and of the Lamb

Reflection:
Solomon took 7 years to build his temple in Jerusalem. But there is no temple in Heaven. In fact there's no church building in Heaven!

Prayer: Jesus, Light of the world, Light of Heaven, we adore you, Lord!

Reading:  Matthew 10

Jesus said to his apostles
"Because you follow me and speak my message,
therefore you will be arrested
and put in prison.

But don't worry about what to say for your defense.
What to say will be given you by the Holy Spirit.

Boldly proclaim my message
and do not be afraid of persecution.

Take up your cross and follow me.
Anyone who does not take up his cross and follow me
is not worthy of me."

Reflection:
Around the world many thousands of Christians are in prison for their faith.
Let's remember them often. My own custom is each day to remember the prisoners (especially the Christian prisoners) of one part of China. See bottom of each day's menu. Hope some readers can follow this custom with me ...checking the bottom of each day's menu and praying for the prisoners in that part of China

Prayer:  Jesus, please help Christians in prison for their faith
