Joshua 7

The Lord had told the Israelites
not to keep anything for themselves
when they captured Jericho.

But one man disobeyed the Lord
and secretly kept some of the spoils.

As a result of that man's disobedience,
the Israelites were defeated in battle
when they attacked the town of Ai.

The disobedient man's  identity was found by drawing of the lot:

- of the 12 tribes, one was chosen, the tribe of Judah.
- of the tribe of Judah, one clan was chosen, that of Zerah.
- of the families of Zerah, one was chosen, that of Zabdi.
- of the men of Zabdi, one was chosen, Achan.

Achan admitted his guilt.
He and his whole family were then stoned to death
and a great cairn built over them.

All of Achan's possessions were burnt.

Dear Lord, please don't let me disobey you

Psalm 40

I waited, I waited for the Lord and he stooped down to me.
He heard my cry.

He saved me from distress.
He put fresh hope into my heart.

How many, O Lord my God, are the times you have helped me.
They are too many for me to describe.

My God, in the depth of my heart I delight in your law.
You do not want external offerings.
You want my heart.

Lord, I offer you my heart, my love. You deserve all my love

Galatians 2

Not long after this, when Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him
to his face, since he was in the wrong

He had been accustomed to eating with non-Jews,
but when some friends of James arrived,
people who insisted that all believers should be circumcised,
he kept away from the non-Jews

When I saw that Peter was not respecting the true meaning of the Good News,
I said to him in front of everyone
"You have no right to make non-Jews adopt Jewish customs"

Jesus, help me understand that it's sometimes ok to criticize top Christian leaders

Mark 15

After the Roman soldiers scourged Jesus, they made fun of him.
They put a purple cloak on him.
They made a crown out of thorns and put it on his head

They knelt in front of him and mocked him saying "Hail, king of the Jews".
They hit his head with a reed, and spat on him

When they had finished making fun of him,
they dressed him  in his own clothes and led him away to crucify him

Jesus, please don't let me hurt other people by making fun of them
