O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today. 
May these passages give me hope, strength, wisdom, courage and peace for my daily life 

Around this time, the Philistines defeated the Israelites in a battle.

The Israelites then went to Shiloh
and took the Sacred Chest of the Lord.

They took the Sacred Chest into battle with them
but the Chest was captured by the Philistines.

In the same battle, Eli's two sons were killed.

When Eli heard that his sons were dead
and that the Sacred Chest had been captured,
he fell backwards off his seat, his neck was broken, and he died

Dear God, please don't let me cause unhappiness for my family

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to make music to your name, O Most High,

to proclaim your love in the morning,
and your truth right through the night.

Your deeds, O Lord, have made me glad.
For the work of your hands, I shout with joy.

To me you give the wild ox's strength.
You anoint me with the purest oil.

May we love and praise you right through our lives,
right till the end of our days.

May we keep on proclaiming your goodness,
proclaiming that in you, our rock, there is only goodness.

Lord, it is right and fitting to love and praise you

We wish you the grace and peace of  God our Father and of the Lord Jesus Christ

I thank God whenever I think of you. Every time I pray for you, I pray with joy, 
remembering how you helped to spread the Good News

You have a permanent place in my heart. God knows how much I miss you. 
I love you as Christ Jesus loves you

My prayer is that your love for each other will increase more and more, 
helping you always to know what is good and to avoid what is bad

Jesus, thank you for all the people
who have a permanent place in my heart

God's power was on display when Jesus healed people.
People came from far and near to hear him teach, and to ask for healing

One day some people carried  a paralyzed man through a crowd to Jesus.
The man was on a stretcher

Jesus knew that these people believed he could help them,
so he said to the paralyzed man "My friend, your sins are forgiven"

Some religious leaders in the crowd were thinking to themselves
that Jesus was wrong to say he could forgive sins

So Jesus said to the leaders "Which is easier:
to say 'Your sins are forgiven', or to say 'Get up and walk'?"

Then to prove that he had authority to forgive sins,
he said to the paralyzed man "Get up, pick up your bed and go home"

The man got up, picked up his stretcher and went home.
The crowd praised God for what they had seen

Jesus, please give me more faith
in your power to forgive,  your power to heal
