First Samuel 5

The Philistines took the captured Sacred Chest
to the shrine of Dagon in one of their towns.

Next morning, they found the statue of Dagon
on its face on the ground, in front of the Sacred Chest.

They picked Dagon up and put him back in his place.
But next morning he was down again,
with his head and hands cut off from the rest of his body.

While the Sacred Chest was in the Philistine town,
the people there were struck with tumors and many people died.

The people told their leaders to take the Sacred Chest
back to Israel where it belonged.

Dear God, please help everyone know
that there is no other God but you.

Psalm 93

The Lord is king, with majesty enrobed,
he has girded himself with power.

The world you made firm, not to be moved.
From all eternity, O Lord, you are.

The oceans and coastlines of the world
are majestic and powerful.

But greater than the roar of mighty waters,
more glorious than the surging of the sea
is the Lord on high.

Such a Lord, such a Creator, such a God.
Truly your decrees are to be trusted.

Holiness is fitting to your house
O Lord, always and everywhere.

We praise you, Lord, our Creator and Lord

Philippians 1

My chains have become famous and have given courage to many other believers.
Many others are now becoming more daring in announcing the Message without fear

I hope and trust that I will always have courage for Christ to be glorified in my body,
whether by my life or by my death

My heart wants to go two ways.
One part wants to depart this world  and live for ever with Christ in heaven.
The other part wants to stay in this world to help more people to know the Lord

Jesus, give me courage in spreading the Good News

Luke 5

As Jesus walked along, he noticed a tax collector sitting by the customs house.
The collector's name was Levi (Matthew)

Jesus said to him "Follow me".  Leaving everything, he got up and went with Jesus.
In Jesus' honor Levi held a banquet in his house.
Many  tax collectors and social outcasts were present

The religious leaders complained
"Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and outcasts?"

Jesus replied "It is not those who are well who need the doctor, but the sick.
I have come to call sinners, not the virtuous, to repentance"

Jesus, thank you for befriending people who were looked down on.
Please help me do likewise
