O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today. 
May these passages give me hope, strength, wisdom, courage and peace for my daily life 

In the 3rd year of drought,
the Lord sent Elijah to speak to Ahab.

Elijah got Ahab to gather all the people
and all the prophets of Baal  on Mount Carmel.

Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal
to produce fire to consume a sacrificed bull.

Elijah mocked the false prophets as they ranted and raved
and cut themselves, but produced no fire for their bull.

Then Elijah got the people to pour water on his bull
and he prayed to God to hear his prayer.

A fire from heaven then consumed the bull
and the people acknowledged the Lord as God.

Elijah then told Ahab there would soon be rain,
and the sky grew dark and produced torrents of rain.

Dear God, please help people not to follow false gods

How good and how pleasant it is
when people live in unity.

It is like precious oil upon the head,
running down upon the beard.

It is like the dew of Hermon
which falls on the heights of Zion.

For there the Lord gives his blessing,
life for ever.

Dear Lord, please help all the peoples of the world
 to live as one family, in unity.

From Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus, to Timothy, true child of mine in the faith. 
I  wish you grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ

Please stay at Ephesus and insist that no one teaches misleading doctrines or empty speculation about the Law of God

As a penal code, the aim of the Law is to make provision not for good people but for offenders:
for murderers, for people who are immoral with women or with boys or with men, 
for liars and for perjurers  - and for everything else that is contrary to sound teaching 

Jesus, please help law offenders not to offend again,
and to make up for what they have done

One Sabbath day Jesus was teaching in a prayer hall.
There was a woman there who for 18 years had been possessed by a spirit
which left her bent over and unable to stand up straight

When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said "Woman, you are rid of your infirmity"
and he laid his hands on her. At once she was healed and could stand up straight,
and she glorified God

Jesus, please heal the people I know who are bent over and can't stand up straight
