Ezra 7

Ezra was a scholar who loved to study the Law of the Lord.
He was a descendant of Aaron.

The Lord moved the heart of the king of Persia
to grant any request that Ezra made to help the Jews.

Ezra prayed: "Blessed be the Lord our God, for moving the
king's heart to look favorably on the rebuilding of our temple."

Dear God, please move the hearts of all government leaders
to look favorably on citizens who want to do good things

Psalm 5

At the start of this day I pray to you, O Lord, my King and my God.
I offer you my prayer and ask for your help.

Through the greatness of your love, I have access to your friendship.
I bow down in reverence and worship.

Lead me, Lord, in the way you want me to go.

It is you, Lord, who bless good people.
You surround them with favors, as with a shield.

Lord, I adore you as my Creator

2 Timothy 4

In the presence of God our Father and of Christ Jesus, I give you this command:
proclaim the Good News and, welcome or unwelcome, insist on it

Refute falsehood, correct error, call to obedience
 - but do this with patience

Be prepared to face people who jettison sound teaching in favor of the latest novelty.
Instead of listing to the truth, they will turn to myths

Make the spreading of the Good News your life's work

Jesus, please protect me from junk ideas and misleading  teachers

Luke 21

Jesus said to his disciples that Jerusalem would be destroyed and its people scattered throughout the world

He also spoke of how his followers would be persecuted,  and of the end of the world:
"The planets will be shaken, nations will be in agony,  bewildered by the force of the oceans.
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with great power and glory

To prepare for your own end of earthly life, stay faithful to prayer and goodness.
Don't let your heart be coarsened by debauchery, drunkenness and material cares"

In this his final week on earth, Jesus spent the daytime in the Temple, teaching.
From early morning the people would gather round him to listen to him.
Then he would spend the night on the Mount of Olives

Jesus, help me be faithful to prayer and goodness
