Nehemiah 1-4

Nehemiah was cupbearer for the king of Persia.
He heard how the Jews who had returned to Jerusalem
were facing many difficulties.

Nehemiah received permission from the king
to go to Jerusalem and help rebuild the city.

Nehemiah then supervised the re-building of Jerusalem's wall,
even though some foreigners in Jerusalem made fun of him.

When the workers were ridiculed by foreigners,
Nehemiah said to the workers:
"Do not be afraid of them. Just keep your mind on the Lord."

Dear God, please help us to do what is right,
even if we meet  ridicule and opposition

Psalm 7

Lord God, I take refuge in you.
Please rescue me from people who are trying to hurt me.

Lord, please stop bad people from doing bad things.
Please help good people to keep on doing good things.

Lord, I will sing to you and thank you for your goodness to me.

Lord, please help me to avoid evil and to do good

Titus 1

From Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to Titus, true child of mine in the faith we share,
wishing you grace and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Savior

The reason I left you behind in Crete was for you to appoint elders in every town:
each of them a man of irreproachable character, married only once, not arrogant or hot-tempered, not a heavy drinker, not out to make money

A man who is hospitable and a friend of all that is good; sensible, devout, with a firm grasp of the Good News, a good teacher, able to refute people who argue against sound doctrine

Jesus, please help all pastors be good "elders"

Luke 22

On the evening of the Passover feast, Jesus and his apostles ate the Passover Lamb
in a large upper room furnished with couches

While they were having the meal, Jesus took some bread, and when he had given thanks,
broke it and gave it to his apostles saying
"This is my body. Do this in memory of me"

Then he took a cup of wine and said
"This cup is the new covenant in my blood which will be poured out for you"

Jesus, please help me understand how your Body and Blood
are present in a Communion service
