O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today. 
May these passages give me hope, strength, wisdom, courage and peace for my daily life 

The wall of Jerusalem was finally rebuilt
and doors were set in place in the wall.

In the seventh month of the lunar calendar
Nehemiah assembled all the people
and read to them the Book of the Law of Moses.

This was the first time that most of the people
had heard the words of Moses' Book.

The people were grateful to God
and praised him with great happiness.

The people also promised God
that they would serve him more faithfully in the future.

But while Nehemiah was away on a visit  to the king
the people and leaders became careless about the Law.

When Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem
he brought the people back to proper observance of the Law 

Dear God, may we find joy and strength in reading the Bible
and may the world have more good leaders like Nehemiah

So many people live and act as if God doesn't exist.
Some foolish people even say there is no God.

So many people have left the way of justice and truth.
So many people follow the way of falsehood.

Lord, help us to live as we should.
Help us not to slander, help us not to wrong others.

Help us to stand firm in the way of goodness.

Remind everyone to be obedient to government officials; 
to be ready to do good at every opportunity;
not to go slandering other people or picking quarrels;
to be courteous and polite to everyone

There was a time when we too were ignorant,
when we lived in wickedness and ill-will, hating each other and hateful ourselves

But then the kindness and love of God our savior were revealed,
and God saved us because of his compassion

God saved us by the cleansing water of rebirth, 
and by renewing us with the Holy Spirit
whom he has poured over us through Jesus Christ our savior

So we are justified by his grace, and look forward to eternal life

Jesus, Savior of the world, you are our Savior

While Jesus was speaking, a group of men arrived, led by Judas.

One of Jesus' apostles used his sword to cut off the right ear of one of the men sent to arrest Jesus

Jesus told his apostles not to use their swords. Then touching the man's ear, he healed him

Jesus said to the men arresting him "This is your hour. This is the reign of darkness"

Jesus, you gave up your freedom for our salvation
