O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today. 
May these passages give me hope, strength, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for my daily life 

When Holofernes heard that the Israelites were resisting him
he was very angry.

He asked Achior, leader of the neighboring Ammonites, for information about the Israelites.

Achior told Holofernes of the Israelites' history: 
how God had freed them from Egypt, how they had conquered the land of Canaan,
and how God protected them.

Holofernes ignored Achior's advice
and decided to attack the Israelites.

Dear God, please protect our country from war and strife

I will bless the Lord at all times,
his praise always on my lips.

In the Lord my soul shall make its boast,
the humble shall hear and be glad.

Glorify the Lord with me, together let us praise his name.
I sought the Lord and he answered me.
From all my terrors he set me free.

The angel of the Lord is encamped around those who revere the Lord, to rescue them.

Taste and see that the Lord is good.
They are happy who seek refuge in him.

The Lord is close to the broken-hearted.
Those whose spirits are crushed he will save.

Lord, by our Bible reading and prayer,
 may we taste and see your goodness each day

Your ancestors were at Mount Sinai when God spoke to Moses

But you already have one foot in the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, 
where millions of angels gather in praise

So, continue to live a life of love and hospitality.
Keep in mind those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them

Keep your marriage undefiled. Avoid greed. Be content with what you have

Jesus, help me remember heaven....and people in prison

From all eternity the Word existed.
The Word was with God the Father.
The Word was God the Son

The Word was the source of life for all creatures

The Word became a man, and lived among us.
We saw his glory, full of grace and truth

Many people did not recognize and did not accept the Word.
But to everyone who did accept him,
he gave power to become children of God 

Jesus, please help me understand how you are the Word-made-flesh
